Unfortunately for Price it’s not just about power. I think I had rumours about the AJ sparring but then again certain fighters like AJ and George Groves are always getting dominated in sparring but it’s not like that against the same opponents on fight night.

No it isn't but Price's power was monstrous

The AJ sparring rumour is one we actually know for sure is true because Price detailed exactly what happened and then AJ admitted it was true. But AJ was still an amateur at the time IIRC

I like Price. He's a good guy and as an offensive force at least he was a wrecking machine in his prime.

Had they fought in the pros my money would be on AJ. I think Chisora was one of several to stop Price whose ability to take a shot was in question.

I'm not making the argument that Price would've beaten AJ in a real fight, Olu. The point is Price did punch extremely hard and unfortunately for him his punch resistance was not of typical British standard.

The version of Price who Chisora beat was the gun shy well past prime version. But again, I'm not suggesting prime Price would've won.

Price had brutal power. He's up there on a short-list of the hardest one-punch heavyweights in recent memory.

I wonder whether his lack of punch resistance had been spotted in the amateurs. I remember back in the day a brilliant Nigerian amateur boxer who was so good with a fatal flaw of a glass jaw. He was beating a guy from Puerto Rico in the 1984 Olympics until he got clocked in either the 2nd or 3rd round.

He was stopped a couple of times as a senior, by Cammarelle and Stiverne albeit both were big punchers

I also saw him get dropped a number of times, three IIRC, by the Indian representative in the Commonwealth games but Price went on to win that fight via stoppage

Poor Price got scared to planet his feet at the end. Tried to move around and box a bit, but unfortunately that requires endurance too...

I don't have any trouble believing it TBH; Price had a lot of deficiencies, but power wasn't one of them.

I agree w/ nearly all of the comments here.

Crossing eras, Price was a modern, tall SHW version of Shavers... except for even less of an engine and punch resistance.
Ofc Price was fighting modern HWs.

Price is only what Wilder could have been if he hadn't spent his first thirty fights against obscure bottom feeders.

Price dared to be great too early and paid the price.

I still remember Pricey boy tearing a hole through the British domestic scene, brutally smashing up guys that were giving other domestic rivals like Fury and Chisora all sorts of problems. He was the goods back then. Should never have taken that Tony Thompson fight...
