There has been a lot of talk recently re the Mayweather Pacquaio negotiations, particularly concerning the purse split. I am hoping to find some historical perspective to determine if Mayweather is really being rational with his 60 percent demand. If any of you know what kind of splits Ali did back in the day or any other big fight i.e Hagler / Hearns etc...please reply. Oh yeah, and are there any records of "winner takes all" fights in recent history or some other deal where the winner gets the biggest purs?

I believe Ali and Frazier split 5 million dollars for fight #1.

Ali & Frazier each got 2.5 mill back in '71....... 'Tis was a record up at that juncture in time.......

Mayrunner and Packy should split the cash as well...... Mayrunner has the support of the ghetto hoods, ho's and dope dealers, while Packy gets the more classy global support..... WORD!

So a 50 50 split? Who had the better rep? Would Ali have been able to push for 60/40 and not get laughed at?

I belive the first fight was 50 50.

Of couse Frazier being the champion should have gotting the higher purse.

Almost as bad as Cooney getting the 50 with Holmes.

That's interesting. Do you think there were more 50 50 splits like that in the past as compared to today?

Ali wasn't like Floyd. He doesn't go money money money. He was more about talking brash, being braggadocios and talking about whipping Joe Frazier. Ali was more popular, but he wasn't the champion so I don't see how could've asked for more. Belts were more important back then for many reasons.

A real business man and ******* behind the negotiations table was SRR.

I guess Ali was doing pretty damn good getting an even split. I guess it's a naive notion but I like the idea of having the winner of a bout getting the larger percentage of the purse. Tell me more bout SRR negotiations pls.

50% splits are very rare in boxing and the draw usually doesn't like conceeding them

SRR demanded 60 or 70% when challenging for Moore's LHW title, Moore wanted 50-50 and simply left the negotiating table.

There would have been Oscar-Tito 2, but Tito wanted 50% and Oscar wouldn't agree to that being the bigger draw.

There was going to be a Mosley-Delahoya 3, but after being the winner for a second time Mosley demanded 51% minimum, I think Oscar offered him 30% or something.

Oscar offered 6million to Winky, in a fight that would likely gross near 50million in PPV buys alone

Mayweather-Oscar was split something like 65-35 in Oscar's favour. There was going to be a rematch but Mayweather wanted 50% and Oscar wouldn't give him that. Oscar fought Manny Pacquaio instead for a 65-35 split. Mayweather

Klitschko's actually promote their own shows and probably doing real splits of 95%-5%, this isn't that uncommon in a champ-challenger situation.

Zab Judah got something like 90k to Spink's 2-3million if I remember correctly, when he was challenging for the titles - pity for Judah he never goto truly cash in, messing it all up against Baldomir

Apparently Gerald McCllenan only got £40K for that tragic fight with Nigel Benn after DKs deductions. Benn was probably on a couple of million for that 1

Duran got $1.65 million for this fight

That's tragic about Gerald McCllenan too

  14. Damn I never knew Oscar was such a natural business shark. You can only imagine how badly these opponants to GBP are getting ripped off.

    I remember that Lewis-Holyfield I was skewed £10 million - £20 for Holyfield. A 33-66 split.

Second fight was 50-50 at £15 mil each.

Pretty sure that's right. I'll check properly when I'm home.
