Honestly do you think that Joe Frazier and George Foreman based on there resume deserve to be top 10 heavyweights? (im not knocking knocking them just curious)
Frazier, not Foreman. Well, I can see why someone would put him in the top 10, but I personally don't have him there. Frazier has wins (almost all of them very convincing) over Ali, Bonavena, Quarry, Ellis, Mathis, Foster, Bugner, Machen and Ramos, and he only lost to Foreman and Ali. Outside of them Bonavena was the only one to really trouble him, and that was when he was still green. I don't see 10 HWs with better records than that.
Both are. Foreman ranks higher because he destroyed Frazier twice. Foreman had the misfortunate, as did the divisions best heavyweights during this period, of fighting in an era dominated by the greatest heavyweight who ever lived. Foreman was the next baddest badass during the era of Ali, an era that included Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier, and Ken Norton. There's not a case that can be made for enough heavyweights to push Foreman out of the top ten (or top five, in my opinion). And if Foreman isn't top ten, then Frazier definitely isn't.
YES Foreman was not pretty to watch ,but he was effective he easily makes my 10. Frazier scrapes in at 10 .
I have both in my top ten, in the 8-10 range. Neither really have the deep resume to push for a top 3, or top 5 spot but head to head both were lethal and each of them had wins over ATGs.
They are both somewhere in the lower top 10, with frazier ranking higher because of his longer title reign (5 years to 2) and defeating superior opposition. I would probably place frazier at 8 and foreman at 9
Maybe Frazier. Maybe. But it's hard to get that image out of my head of Foreman bouncing him around like a ping pong ball. He was also should we say, careful to avoid certain guys. He was the first to beat Ali though... Foreman? No. Beat two made-to-order fighters (Frazier and Norton) and did not have longevity as champion. Second career was largely smoke and mirrors. He never beat the top guys, and avoided most of them.
Especially with those great defences over Ron Stander and Terry Daniels , respectively rated 45 and 46 in the Boxing Illustrated. Fought 2 ATG's 5 times W 1 L4
A couple of unworthy opponents doesn't undo all the good work Frazier undoubtly did. But had he defended like a proper champion in 1971-1973 he might be a notch or two higher, but he might also be lower. Losing the title to Shavers or Lyle wouldn't have done wonders for his legacy.
Yes, for their body type, attributes & style, I dont think anyone could have done what they did any better TBH.
