Which is another way of saying ,his management avoided certain fighters. He beat Ellis,Quarry convincingly ,so why did he rematch them ,ever think about that? Maybe safer than taking on other guys?Mathis was not rated when he fought Frazier ,Ramos was over hyped, and quit.Ziggy was not in the TOP 20! Fraziers best wins are his tko over Quarry, his corner retirement over Ellis, his blow out of a skinny Lighheavy Champ who failed every time he took on a decent heavy, two close wins over Bonavena who dropped him twice in their first fight ,and his hard dec win over a comebacking Ali who had 18 rds of boxing in 4 years.Yet you place him over Foreman who had 2 kos over him and a ko over Norton.:huh How would you see Bonavena or Ellis or Foster doing with Foreman? Do you think Bonavena could put George down twice? Do you think Bonavena, who was floored by Zora Folley ,Jimmy Ellis, and kod by Ali would remain upright against Foreman?
My problem with Foreman is that he took on 5 of the top guys of the 70's, and lost decisively to two of those and nearly lost to a third. In other words he's close to 50-50 against top opposition in his prime. Yes, his win over Frazier is extremely impressive, and the one over Norton is also very good but a bit tarnished by the fact that Shavers and Cooney destroyed Norton even more quickly. And just like Frazier has Bonavena, Foreman has Peralta. The big difference here is that Bonavena is a lot better than Peralta.
I don't rally want t get into a debate, but there are people who you can have above Frazier enough that he just sits outside the top 10 imo. Not knocking him at all, but on how it all happened, i have no problem with him just outside the list. H2hhe's immense, like i said, im not knocking him.
Foreman beat Peralta twice once by dec and once by stoppage,Peralta was a durable tricky boxer . I dont think Bonavena was that much better than Peralta ,they met twice Oscar won the first , second was a draw.Peralta was only a big LH when he came into the heavy ranks yet drew with Lyle,he lost the other one ,but Oscar lost to Lyle too.
Yeah, and Frazier beat Bonavena twice. Bonavena was a fixture in the rankings in the late 60's early 70's, Peralta wasn't. And Foreman's difficulties with Peralta just underscores how badly he match-upped against boxers.
Common guys, Foreman was 21 years old and had 15 fights when Peralta took him the distance in their first meeting.
Buster Mathis is an underrated win for Frazier. This was for the NYSC Heavyweight title. Mathis was undefeated. Mathis at his best was a large man with skills, when he was at his peak he had serious skills and he gave joe frazier huge fits, i had the fight even going into the 10th. Frazier lost to him in amatuers but beat him in pros, its very hard to do that, looke at vernon forrest-shane mosely. I think Frazier deserves more credit for this win.
It depends on styles. You keep bringing up the first Bonavena fight as something credible. It's not credible and it's getting really ridiculous. Why don't you ever bring up the second fight where Frazier easily won? Does it not suit your agenda?
If Frazier and Forman don't deserve to be in the to 10 then who does? And I mean modern 205 plus pound heavyweights so no Marciano, Dempsey, Tunney, Jack Johnson or fighters like Ezzard Charles who was a middleweigh/light heavyweight and is only known because it makes Maciano seem like he fought some good fighters. Foreman, Ali and Holmes are the top 3 real heavyweights of all time period. Frazier is some where between 5 and 10
If you are going to talk about top wins in their career then Foreman had , Frazier 2 times. Peralta 2 times. Chuvalo, Ron Lyle, Boone Kirkman, John Dino Dennis ( he was undefeated when Foreman fought him) Chuck Wepner was a big strong guy. Shannon Briggs, Micheal Moorer, Bert Cooper, Aldison Rodrigues, Lou Savarese, Gerry Cooney, Ken Norton, Axel Shultz, Pierre Coetzer, and Alex Stewart. Not to mention fighting Fighters like Ali, Tommy Morrison , Evander Holyfield and Jimmy Young which he lost too. Joe Louis fought far worse people, Lennox Lewis is known for beating 2 shot fighters in Holyfield and Tyson. So i asked you again. Name 10 205 pound modern fighters who fought better people and deserve to be in the top 10 of all time more than Joe Frazier and George Foreman.
McGrain I bet you think Marciano is a top 10 heavyweight great right? Even though he isn't a heavyweight and the best people he fought were pushing 40. People like you crack me up, Your lack of knowledge kills me. You could even name people like David Jaco to the list of fighters Foreman fought. If you are going to bash Foreman for fighter him then bash Razor Rudduck for getting knocked out by him and Tyson for fighting him too.
