That night joe frazier was almost unbeatable, but george foreman is bad style for him. What is your opinion in this fight? Could joe survive early rounds and take late ko o one decision? I think that this fight would be more competitive that the fight of 73, but i choose george forenan by tko in 5 five rounds.
I agree. Joe would have put up a better fight, but a prime George would always have been a nightmare for him.
I've always been of the opinion Frazier could have at the very least made a better account of himself. He didn't really give himself much of a chance in that first fight, since after beating Ali he fought less frequently and partied with his Funk band more regularly, gaining weight while losing the timing and drive that propelled him to the top. Its also been said that he didn't regard Foreman too seriously as a threat. Just look at the rematch later down the road. Foreman was much sharper (as observed by Cowsell) but a better prepared Frazier more aware of Big George's power did a good job of slipping his attacks in the initial rounds before slowing down and finally getting caught in the 5th. Could a prime Frazier have made the strategy work? Its interesting to ponder given a shell of Frazier managed to extend the fight for 5 rounds like that. However, I can see a case for Foreman always having his number. In addition to his power, he had the leaping left hook scouted well and the timing down perfectly on that jab/uppercut combo. But if Frazier can drag the fight into deeper what like he almost did in 76, than anything can happen.
your threads are ******ed and you are a ****ing simpleton haha foreman would stop frazier always, styles make fights dumb ****. get ouf of here, you are the same garbage here and on youtube.:hi:
FoTC Frazier would not have beaten Foreman or even been competitive. Nobody that stepped into the power of that Foreman was able to beat him. It's not a slight against Joe, it's just a terrible matchup for any version of him.
He definitely does better. He may capitulate mid-rounds like the rematch or he could be more assertive and sharper defensively and offensively, allowing him to weather the first several rounds before assuming complete control himself. Frazier definitely has a good shot. I may favor him even in a best vs best scenario. Frazier simply beat better opposition than George and fought better as the fights went on.
Incredible. Everyone knows and understands Frazier has no shot vs Foreman. He had two tries and both were utter destructions. Foreman throws one atom bomb after another and Joe can't dodge them all. Probably the worst style matchup one can imagine in hwt history.
No chance. Just when I think I've heard it all I read something like this. I've watched both men in their prime train and fight. No chance Frazier can"duck" enough of Foremans truly sledgehammer blows to avoid being koed. Frazier was staggered with Foremans jab in 73 and many of the kds came from single blows. You don't understand just how hard Foreman punched in his prime. I've never seen anything like it. Most powerful fighter I've ever seen and it's not close. I loved Frazier but he is fighting someone he can't back up, can't out muscle and more importantly he is fighting a man who at any time with one punch from either hand can knock him down or out.
So wrong. Watch the fight from 73. George set up his ko blows with what? A pole like jab that actually staggered Frazier...one jab staggered him. So your imagining a wild roundhouse slugger which is not what Frazier faced in 73. Straight jabs, counter hooks (first kd in second round), the key punch to get to a crouching fighter...an uppercut (nearly took Joes had off second kd in round one). Again...Joe had two shots at Foreman and he was obliterated twice. If you know boxing there is no magical formula that allows a fighter so devastated to win a third fight....just is not going to happen. Worst style you can have facing such a sledgehammer puncher.
Your wrong in your analysis because you try to equate what happened with Foreman vs Ali to a scenario where Frazier beats Foreman. It's wrong to assume Foreman would be exhausted after 3 rounds with Joe. Ali was hitting George with right hands ...the punch he was open for. Frazier had no right hand in his prime. Also Ali was able with his physical strength out tire George out by leaning on him round after round. Fraziers too short and already in a crouch to do the same. Finally Ali was not being hit as Joe would be hit...Ali was the boxer...Frazier the puncher. Joe would be there to be hit. Even if George lands one punch it could be enough to seriously hurt Joe or end the fight. So at any time with any punch the bout could be over.
After the fight of the century Frazier could not lead or land first against top fighters. It was like losing half of his defence. Something happened tohis timing and eyesight. The fighter who could time a fighter as fast as Ali -at range- was having to soak up blows and "feel his way in" blindly against Ron Stander!!!! Sure styles make fights and the style of fight Frazier was reduced to after TFOTC was exacly the style of fight Dick Sadler knew would suit his work in progress, the young George Foreman. Dont get me wrong Frazier was still a lethal presure fighter, its just he could not afford to walk through big shots without geting his own off first. Ok against bugner and Ali but againstForeman power he needed to meet him with punches mid ring like he used to against everyone else he fought BEFORE the first Ali fight. Watch Foreman vs Ted Gullick just months before Foreman git his title fight. imagine prime frazier landing like that?
