-He slipped Foreman with his usual bob and weaves, but Frazier certainly picked his spots more carefully, he was clearly trying to wear George out.

-That may have been how he was trained but that didn't translate in the fight. Foreman's technique was improved and he added the straight right, but he was still aggressively volume punching with the goal of overwhelming Frazier, which he eventually did.

-He certainly didn't look very hesistant to me. He was pushing forward continously and letting his hands go. Frazier just made him work for it. Kudos to Foreman for keeping the workrate up and not getting discouraged. He made Frazier pay whenever he stopped moving, didn't give the man a break.

-I agree, Joe had no stamina and by all accounts was nearly blind. He had no chance of winning this fight, but getting out of the early rounds and actually taking a round or two is itself a personal victory for him all things considered. It was sad to see him in such shape but he tried hard and gave a good account of himself.

Frazier should never had fought after Manila. However Foreman at any stage of Joes career would have koed him. George hit like a sledgehammer...literally and Joe was always there to be hit.

The point is Frazier tried a style that made George work for his T.K.O.
Joe was (as stated one million times) SHOT by 1976. Just worn out from all the ring wars. He came into the fight way too heavy and out of shape on top of this. Now take the FOTC Frazier and have him fight the 1976 style! Unless Foreman gets Joe early, Joe is not going to tire like he did in 1976.
It seems like George would tire considering he was already winded at the
the end of the '76 bout. Yes, George throws bombs and anything can happen, but for the sake of argument, if the fight went the same way as the '76 bout, Joe is going to show more stamina, movement and snap in his punches, taking the fight into deeper waters. Foreman may get fatigued. Joe must not revert back to the swarmer mentality and keep moving! Everyone knows George had the height and power advantage.
We need not have that mentioned again. George very well may stop Joe again, but with '71 Joe fighting '76 style, it could have been interesting.

You don't understand how hard George hit. You would have better luck winning the lottery than Joe would have not getting hit with a ko blow against prime Foreman. Being pursued by Foreman would tire Joe out as much as anything. The body shots Joe was being hit with were crippling. There would be no deep waters for Foreman. Joe would be pulverized before George would get tired enough for Frazier to accomplish anything.

Wrong. I know how hard George hit. He hit the hardest. I don't think you are understanding the point. It is only replacing '76 Joe with '71 Joe. If all the factors were exactly the same as Uniondale, '71 Joe should do better than the war-torn, out of shape, '76 Joe. I AM NOT saying Joe would win, I'm saying that it would be interesting in the EXACT same fight, with the exact same styles as the fighters used in '76, but a with a '71 , in shape and not war torn, Joe Frazier. Again, I am not saying Joe wins. Every indication would be that George stops Joe again with his bombs.

Prime vs prime the fight would not be any different. Joe did not have the style or skill set to do anything against the best Foreman. Understand the Foreman Joe faced in fight two was not prime. There is no reason to believe the best George would have any issue at all with prime Frazier...just the worst possible style matchup.

I was deviating from the thread subject in referring to a different scenario.
It was a scenario involving their second meeting and with the same exact
sequence of events, just a FOTC Frazier replacing the '76 Frazier. Really not what the thread was about at all.

Yes, the FOTC Joe still has big problems with '73 Foreman.

clark, yes, frazier 71 was in better shape, probably he was more agile, he had a better stamina and he was more dinamic, but in the end of the day these department are irrelevant here against foreman, it was very important against a boxer like ali not against george , frazier would do pressure once and again and foreman would hurt him once and again, frazier simply could not support the power of foreman, joe would keep coming, it was his only way to fight and foreman would catch him once and again, also don´t forget that 71 frazier was smaller than the version 73 or 76. he weighed 206 pounds, the people think that it would have been a harder match 100% for george and it is not a sure thing, maybe foreman would stop this smaller version of joe as easily as he did in the real fight or maybe faster. it could happen.
the people usually talk about 73 frazier like a finished boxer.. it is a complete bull****... frazier was 29 years old, he was undefeated, he was the first man who did beat muhammad ali so his mind was of iron in this point of his career, overweight? he weighed 214, and he destroyed ron stander at 217 1/2, i don´t think that the weight was a relevant factor that´s all, foreman would have stopped every version of joe. the only fair point for frazier is that he did not take foreman seriously enough, but anyway he could not do anything, i remember when a guy did ask frazier about foreman and ali, and he said "the people did think that you were finished because you did look bad against foreman, but then you fought a great fight in manilla" and frazier did answer.... " you know, 2 different men... ali just did talk too much, he was jabbing and running, and foreman had a blow like a hammer".
frazier himself said that he did think that he never could have beaten foreman

I have a hard time seeing even a 68-69 Frazier (who I presume most Frazier fans would regard his peak years, although still prime as of 71) besting Foreman...Just see this as the absolute worst match-up for Frazier at any point in time.

If any one bothers to watch Foreman fighting ted gullick they would give prime Frazier a huge chance! Its a two round fight on you tube. watch it and come back to me. He beats Foreman to the draw and lands first in each exchange. Now if that were Frazier!

Frazier was twice the fighter when he could see well enough to time a man on the way in. He used to land first at any range. You dont go from catching Ali at range to feeling your way in against ron stander unless something happened to his eyesight or timing.
