BULL****! Ali and Frazier had been completely and utterly ****ed for 7 or 8 rounds. To suggest that Ali couldn't walk out and keep Frazier off, who was almost dead, for three minutes to retain a title that meant everything to him is lunacy. Ali raised his hand and sat on the canvas. Same thing he did after the Foreman fight.
Find me one reporter pre fight who called Foreman a crude slugger and picked Ali to beat the **** out of him? You're a ****in genius 36 years later. Wins over Ellis, Quarry, Bugner, Mathis, Chuvalo, Bonavena and Doug Jones not good enough? You're a ****in idiot!
The guy beat more name fighters than most single-division champions (at the least) will ever face (win, lose or draw). One of the deepest conceivable resumes for a heavyweight.
Excellent post. Most astute post of the month actually. The Klitschkos would have slaughtered Frazier, if Futch would have even let Smokin Joe sign for the fight.
The Klitschko's are nearly 50lbs heavier. You don't qualify for rocket science to establish that a 6ft 7in monster beats a 205lb come forward slugger. ****in hell! Well done genius!
Well done. I'm really happy you got that off your chest. We obviously already knew were an idiot so no harm done.
Ali is the greatest heavyweight of all time. Frazier gave him his first loss and toughest fight. And with wins over Ellis, Quarry, Bunger, Foster, Mathis, Bonavena, also having two fights of the year I dont see how he is overrated. He only lost to two men. Foreman and Ali who are two of the best ever.
:bart Your comparing Frazier to a bum and his physical dimensions were close to that of a modern day cruiser, but you fail to acknowledge this great fighter's skill and talent. Yes, he liked to come forward, and he was agressive, but by no means did he just waltz in there like some caveman. As crude as he seemed, he was extremely talented. Other than Tyson, who was not a big HW himself either, Frazier was probably the HW that used waist movement and knew how to get on the inside like no other. Ali had the fastest jab and Joe knew how to get in. Your also seriously underestimating Foreman greatly. Frazier only lost to 2 of the best HW's of all time, not just regular joes like purity or a decent one like brewster or sanders. Another thing. Probably the only thing I will agree with you was that either Klit and alot of modern HW's would be stronger than Frazier or bigger punchers than Frazier, but Smokin Joe was never really about power and that's what alot of people especially noobs fail to understand. Frazier's style was more about getting on the inside and cutting down a bigger opponent and making them fight his fight where it was convinient for Frazier. Tell me, how many fighters were actually smaller than Frazier? He did fight a lightheavyweight like Doug Jones and Bob Foster, but even though Frazier was a short HW, he had a HW frame. He had a very aggressive style and was consistent for 15 rounds. Fighting bigger men is what he knew what to do best. Frazier would be equally happy outworking you in a decision as stopping you. Prime Foreman wasn't the smartest, but he is still considered one of the greatest punchers and ko artists of all time. Everyone here would agree all of the Klits opponents would also get ko'd by Foreman. Frazier easily had enough stamina to beat either Klit by decision. This man had more heart than almost any fighter I know. You want to tell me Frazier wouldn't have a chance, yet at the sametime you want to give Haye and Adamek better chances against the Klits? That is some bull**** right there.:bart
You must have foregot Boxed Ears, Foreman was a two division champion! most of the guys he beat were lightheavyweights, so, Foreman was the LH.Weight champ too!
Many of the 70's fighters would not even pass the physical to fight today in the heavyweight division, fighters like Frazier, Chuvelo, and Wepner...
Hay thinks Grandma's boy!:good but you know you really need to move out and get your own place, you'll never get the women staying with Grandma...
