Frazier retires after FOTC, how is he rated?

How was it Ali's choice not to fight for 3 1/2 years? He tried numerous times to get a fight during his exile .Where do you get your information from.?atsch

 

The nature of the sport means that an up and coming guy, slightly short of his prime beats a man a little past his best "the King is Dead Long live the King etc" .I think Ali beat what was around in his first reign ,if you disagree, who would you say he avoided?
No doubt a prime Liston would have given him a harder fight would he have beaten Ali ? I dont think so.The fact that Folley and Williams were past their best before gettting shots is more Patterson's fault than Ali's ,I think.

Stay off the drugs man. Don't you know he was stripped of his title / boxing license and he wasn't allowed to leave the USA. He was criminalized by no good creepy slimeballs who didn't like a young brash black man who could speak his mind and who couldn't be beat in the ring.

 

The Fight of The Century was a great fight, but was a very clear win for Frazier. The second fight was close and some people felt Joe won that fight. Frazier was clearly not at his best when he fought Frazier because some of his fights were catching up with him. I know this because a prime Frazier would have destroyed Joe Bugner and it took him longer to defeat an older Jimmy Ellis. He was on the decline after his first fight with Ali.

Doesn't Frazier deserve some easy fights after fighting Ali? He had two easy fights and then climbs in the ring with an undefeated seemingly invincible wrecking machine, George Foreman. Let's not overlook that here, it's not he ducked Foreman.

 

Frazier looked better in the rematch with Quarry than in the first one, though. Anyway, Ali was further removed from his prime in all three fights (especially FOTC) and he won two of them. Case closed.

And the rematch close? Tell me how Frazier could possible been given the majority of rounds in that one. Ali won rds 1-3, 6, 9 and 11 without question. He won round 4 with a smaller margin and 12 was close. Frazier clearly won 5, 7, 8 and 10, but giving him three more rounds? I just don't see it.

 

Nobody. But if Ali wasn't at his best for Frazier then Liston wasn't for Ali and so on. I'm not interested in "ooh he was past his best" crap but wanted to question someone who did, that's all. I don't have personal ties to these people they're just blokes. :good

Not overly bothered. Would like title race to be alive, to give us a chance of beating them at Wembley. Still, I wanted United to win of course.

Didnt Ali deserve easy fights after, as you say being clearly beaten by Frazier. Makes you wonder just how clear that victory was doesn't it?

 

Yet when they fight again, it's Frazier that's past it at only 30. Standers et al. must really have taken something out of him.
