Frazier was 37 and 229 pounds in 1981. I have a ruff copy.. Frazier was faded when he fought a younger Jumbo Cummings... Frazier wasn't embarrassed, just shot..... The draw was fair---enough...... MR.BILLbbb
I thought Cummings outworked Frazier and deserved the win. But regardless, Frazier looked bad in that fight. After Manilla and the second Foreman fight, I wonder what Frazier thought he could do in the heavyweight division. Holmes would have made Frazier look like an amateur!
I've watched this a few times over the years. In all fairness,Cummings just about did enough to earn the nod. Sentiment gave Joe a draw, imo.
I had the newspaper clipping of "Frazier-Cummings" from '81. Frazier earned $80 G's for that farce.... Frazier was slated to fight again in 1983 or 1984 against some Canadian dude, but the bout got scraped for some reason..... MR.BILL
And let's all be thankful that it DID get scrapped. In the Cummings farce,Joe looked worse than Muhammad Ali did against Trevor Berbick, later the same month. It was so sad that these two great warriors left boxing like that. To the tune of 'Would n't It Be Nice' by the Beach Boys - "Would n't it be nice if Ali and Joe had hung them up after Manila"
