Frazier would be picked to beat Willard and Carnera, despite them being similarly sized as Fury. Could Frazier chop down this 6'8 oak tree?
If Fury allowed to wear his trousers up to his nipples? Assuming he isn't, i think Frazier wins, whether its over 12 rounds or 15. Would it be easy? No. Could Frazier potentially get dropped once? Possibly. Fury has developed a nice right uppercut but let's be honest, he isn't Foreman in terms of power. Fury is simply too big and too hittable to beat Frazier. Fury might actually win a few of the early rounds since Smokin Joe took time to get warmed up. But Frazier will start working with hard left hooks to the body and eventually the head once Fury starts leaning forward. Fury's clinching and physical strength allows him to survive and lose a decision. Frazier 8-4 or 7-5.
I like Fury but as Usyk has shown, modern super heavyweights aren't invincible. The advantages they have in sheer size and strength also lead to them being disadvantaged when it comes to work rate. A 270 lb body simply can't sustain the Ali or Frazier type of pace round after round. Younger fighters today like Opetaia or even Itauma need to learn from Usyk and come in as light as possible. The 210-230 lb range is perfect for most heavies. Here you can maximize punching power, speed and work rate. This is also one of the reasons i pick Ali, Holmes and perhaps Usyk over the likes of Lennox - i just think they will be able to outwork the bigger man whose body just isn't designed to sustain that kind of work rate.
Fury. A prime Fury was a different beast to the current version. As much as I love Joe the size difference is simply enormous and Joe's walk in swarmer syle would suit Tyson's quick pot shotting. I lnow people always seem to hate their own era but there are weight classes in boxing for a reason.
Slickster Fury under Peter would get walked down, the huge but well conditioned Fury of Wilder 2 and Usyk 2 dirty-clinches Joe into submission
Fury's ribs and liver would not agree with clinching with Frazier Fury has virtually non-existent inside fighting experience, all he knows is clinch and get separated, Frazier did the majority of his damage in that range and Fury would be a fish out of water Fury moves like molasses compared to Ali, Frazier would have no issue getting past Fury's jab, once Frazier's body work has Fury in a semi permanent keeled over position Frazier starts coming up top with his erratic bobbing/timing and cleans Fury's clock with left hooks and some uppercuts sprinkled in, it would look about like the destruction of Ramos but in one of the championship rounds
So you think the Fury of the 2nd Wilder fight beats Frazier but the pre-comeback Fury loses while also holding the views (based on previous posts) think that the Fury of the 2nd Wilder fight loses to Foreman while the pre-comeback Fury wins? Not criticizing, merely observing. Can't say I agree, but interesting viewpoint which just goes to show how styles make fights.
I think that Fury’s better off being mobile and boxing from range against George rather than trying to smother and take him out, whereas against Frazier I think that he would pay for trying to use his speed and movement to box Frazier up from range which is known to have far less success against him than against George, as well as coming in so light. I’m also not sure the early Fury had that pop to take Joe out even with that much size. The bigger version of Fury would not only outweigh Joe by almost 80 pounds, he also planted his feet and went forward more. Sugar also taught Fury that nasty uppercut which Frazier will suffer dearly from. Walking down George comes with the consequence of potentially trading with him, and George isn’t Wilder who even then still managed to somewhat land on the aggressive Fury. Joe isn’t the insane puncher that George was.
