No his defense was crude compared to Frazier's. Dont see how his chin is better considering a light heavy dropped him hard. More power in the rt sure but his hands were way slower
Great topic..... Does Rocky have any advantage over Joe? Not bigger, faster or more lethal with the punches................ Does heart win it ? I pick JF late ..... But what a great fight. Simply, I see Frazier as a bigger more advanced Rocky.
Frazier was completely unfazed by Bob Fosters punches and he was a murderous hitter at light heavyweight. He also walked through Ellis and Quarry's punches, guys who were naturally under 200 lbs couldn't hurt Frazier. Rocky went life and death with light heavyweight sized guys such as Charles and Moore. It's a but of a stretch to say Rocky is much more durable than Frazier.
No Marcianos defense was better. Plenty of stats to prove it. As well as the eye test. Frazier was no slouch defensively just wasn’t as good. That LHW that dropped him happenes to be the all time KO leader with a 64-4 record at Hw only losing to HOFamers most after the age of 38. Also didn’t affect him much. Frazier was dropped many times in his career by lesser men. a prime Marciano was also not slow. More history revisionism. He was slow in his last fight on film. The rest show average speed.
Well I'm just gonna say I disagree with you on all accounts and I stand by my original post. I believe Frazier kicks his butt
He was only ever dropped by Bonavena and Foreman. Foreman is certainly not a lesser man than Moore (at HW) and was naturally 40 lbs heavier and hit significantly harder. He's also a hall of famer and a 2x champ while Moore never became HW champ so this is a bizarre statement to make.
Comparing Walcott and Moore’s power to Ellis and Quarry? Walcott and Moore were better then the latter especially power wise. Charles never had Marciano hurt and won both outright. Maybe hurt him in that was competitive but certainly no danger of a Ko. Think you mixed him up with Walcott. Both were knock downs thag never fazed Marciano. Obviously wasn’t even wobbly and recovered quickly. Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t Frazier dropped early in his career a few times? Thought he was if not I retract that statement
I seem to come down on the Rocky Marciano side of the fence on this one, but perhaps only by a wafer thin margin. They have similar stylistic strengths and weaknesses, but Marciano's style strikes me as being slightly better suited to a head on collision.
Quarry and Foster have their fair share of brutal one punch KO's. If we're limiting the criteria to men under 200, yes, you can definitely compare them to Walcott and Moore. They pass the eye test and they have the KO% and highlight reel KOs over ranked opponents to prove it. He still went life and death with Charles and nearly got stopped due to a bad cut was my point. They fought twice, the first fight going the distance. If you think he never hurt rocky even once that's pretty delusional. If this was the case Rocky would have shown him no respect and just walked through his shots and beat him up. The point was he struggled with a natural light heavy who was far past his prime while Frazier just ate Foster's punches for breakfast and stopped him. Same thing with Ellis, Machen, and Quarry. Men under 200 couldn't even faze Frazier. As for as I know only Bonavena and Foreman. Dropped him and he got up every time. If there was some flash knockdown early in Frazier's career it obviously doesn't mean much since he was a rookie before his prime. He won every fight until Foreman. The point was Foreman was much larger and a heavier puncher than Moore but you were acting like Rocky being dropped by Moore is no big deal because Frazier was dropped by "lesser men".
Ali stopped Moore in 4 very easily. Rocky went life and death with him and had to get off the floor to win. Do you really want to play this game? I was simply using his own logic.
Can we agree that getting dropped by Walcott and Moore, is not a particularly damaging indictment on a fighters chin?
