Although it won't be a walkover, Frazier wins. His edge in hand speed and defense is what gets him the win.
Strange that both their contemporaries thought Marciano was the better. Yet it’s supposed to be a no brainer for Frazier? Some people are very odd thinking their opinions on boxing are so superior to others. They all should prob be millionaires betting on fights by now.
Frazier wasn't too big or powerful for Marciano. The separation is in Joe's superior precision and his accuracy. An underrated part of his game. He also was quicker.
I knew a guy in the factory where I worked. We called him Shorty. He was a hand glass blower and great guy to talk with, but always 100% sure of his picks in upcoming fights. I used him as a measuring stick when I was planning on putting a large bet on an upcoming fight. If he agreed with me I'd usually NOT make my bet. If he disagreed with my pick, I'd usually DOUBLE up on it. The poor guy was almost 100% wrong in his 100% sure thing picks. He was a very handy guy to have around when getting ready to bet on a big fight! A really great predicter of fights, in reverse. He never bet, himself. Good thing!
thanks. Rocky has more going for him and fights better backing up. Frazier's face lumps up but so does Rocky This could be decided by facial injuries
The ultimate immovable object vs the unstoppable force fight. Frazier vs Marciano would have "classic " written well before the 1st bell rang. I like Frazier in this one. Here's why. Though Marciano would have moments early on , Frazier is faster, bigger, and better defensively. Marciano would find it very hard to land his "Suzy Q" cleanly on Frazier, his constant head movement, and ability to slip much faster right hands from fighters like Ali , Ellis and Mathis would suggest Frazier wouldn't have much issue slipping and effectively countering Marciano's best weapon the majority of the fight. Physically Marciano was very strong, but he wouldn't be able to simply overwhelm Frazier the way Foreman did. Frazier would eventually grind Marciano down. He would start smoking by the 6th-8th rds after some hellacious exchanges between the two in the earlier rds. The ref wouldn't have a choice but to stop the fight between the 9th and 11thrds from Marciano's cuts or the fight beginning to become a one sided battering. The winner is" Smokin" Joe Frazier and Millions of boxing fans around the world. Also Marciano, would demonstrate how a champion should lose. No biting off ears or sudden shoulder injuries.
Rocky lands some Frazier-staggering shots, but gets hit way too much. His face is a mask of blood when the ref stops it in the 11th.
Have to say one of the best breakdowns on this truly epic encounter, slight quibble would be that both would be gassing around the 7th or 9th. we are talking about 2 of the best conditioned HWs , or even of any weight come to that, both trained like spartans, furthermore I have not seen either fighter even remotely " tired " save for maybe Joe in 3rd fight, then again that wasn't until the 13/ 14 round. stay safe buddy.
Along with Frazier-Holyfield, this is my favourite fantasy heavyweight fight. I copped out on a verdict but it would be a war.
I say they'd be tired because neither of them had a long drawn out war with another boxer who hits as hard as each other. If you notice, while Frazier and Rocky both had incredible stamina, this was often show cased against men who were technicians and fought on the back foot. They would both severely deplete each other's energy when they just trade in the inside. Few people went to the body against either of them as well which would be another factor leading to their rapid decrease in stamina.
