I wonder if Joe's punch resistance was ever the same after FOTC. In the subsequent fights with Ali, I don't think he looked able to shrug off the punches as he did in the first.
Oliver McCall and maybe even Ross Puritty would not have had to withstand it all , as Foreman would have tasted some big hands if he faced anything like them , and at least McCall would probably even remain upright until Foreman wouldn't , same for Liston who was way inferior to Foreman . .. which was unavailable during the so called "golden (****) era" :yep Lewis/Vitali vs Foreman is approximately 50-50 . Valuev would have done to Foreman (and Liston) what Foreman did to Frazier , only due to his awkwardness / sluggishness it might have taken him a few more rounds.
If you go through your career and only George Foreman, possibly the hardest hitting heavyweight ever, can score a knockout over you, then your chin's pretty sturdy.
i think the argument for frazier's chin on the basis that the only pure knockouts frazier suffered were from foreman is a bit faulty i can't believe i'm agreeing with him, but frankenfrank raises a good point: what power punchers was he able to withstand? THAT'S the real question. Just cause somebody extremely powerful knocked you out doesn't mean you have a great chin. It's the people who didn't knock you down or out that serve as proof. to that end, frazier has a list of pretty solid punchers (bonevena, ali, chuvalo, quarry) that were barely able to put a dent in him, save for bonevena. however, the damage oscar did and getting stunned badly by ali in the second fight, confirm to me he could be hurt if caught early or cold. it's not a terrible knock but frazier was hurtable before his engine really got going. he wasn't invincible but sure as hell sturdy
Heart is always what gets someone up, chin and heart is what keeps people from going down. In the case of a guy like Floyd Patterson, his heart was as big as anyone's, but his chin unfortunately tended to let his huge heart down.
Smokey Joey Frazier had a CAST-IRON-CHIN, only George Foreman could drop him And Foreman is teh most powerful And strongest puncher of all times by miles, Foreman is in his own league when it comes to KO-power, it a fact. :deal
and bonevena...twice. hook, you're an entertaining poster and all but have you ever actually WATCHED boxing?
i dunno if your telling teh truth, maybe you hate Frazier? :huh i have watched Joey Frazier VS Quarry X2, Mathis, Ellis, Foster, Ali X3, Foreman X2 - So YES i do watch boxing you cheeky *****.
Yeah, and he still got knocked down six times, too.A fighter with a good chin would not have been knocked down that many times in such a short period. He was shook up before the first knockdown, and the first knockdown itself came from a glancing punch.
