I defend Frazier’s right to select Daniels and Stander because just about all the available contenders had lost or were tied to fights with Muhammad Ali in 1972. Frazier had been hospitalised after the Ali fight where doctors fought to save Frazier from having a stoke due to the blood pressure issues worsened in the fight with Ali. Everyone knew there was little chance of Frazier ever being the same again.. To decide if he could continue as a boxer an exhibition was made between Williams and Frazier to see if Frazier could still take a shot.

While this was going on, Ali was really still the most outstanding contender of 1972 and Frazier had already beat him. Ali was beating Ellis, Mac Foster, Blue Lewis, Chuvalo, Patterson...

No other contender was racking up wins over other contenders. Look at who Foreman fought in 1972.

If ever a champion was entitled to taking fights like Daniels and Stander when his contenders were not fighting each other, then Frazier, coming back from serious health worries, deserved it

Funnily enough I was listening to Costello on Boxing on the radio the other day, and they had an interview with Joe Frazier's head of security and he was saying Frazier's health problems going into the FOTC were worse than generally believed, and that the fight doctor, in fact, was bribed to allow the fight to continue.

This ties in with Joe's own testimony regarding the fight, which he said he would have pulled out of were it anyone but Ali.

I wasn't arguing against it. I was merely correcting Bokaj when he said you were criticizing the quality of Frazier's challenges, when bringing up William's win over Daniels as opposed to thinking Williams' wasn't actually shot and washed up when he fought Daniels.

Shame he couldn't protect Don from the wrath of Leonard.

Joe still should have fought Mac and Ron Lyle.

    No I don’t think so.

Frazier wasn’t ready to fight until January 1972 then May 1972.

In January Ron Lyle had only 11 fights. He was a nobody. He had been a pro for a year. By May Ron still had not beat anyone. By December Ron had beaten Larry Middleton, a good enough win to warrant a title fight, but by then Frazier was already in training for Foreman. After Frazier lost to Foreman, Lyle would lose to Quarry who Frazier had already beaten.

Mac Foster? Same kind of thing, only worse. 1970 Foster was exposed by Quarry, who Frazier had already stopped, Frazier beat Ali, then by January 1972, when Frazier was available to defend his title, Mac was in the ring with Muhammad Ali and lost again. Mac didn’t fight again until Foreman was champion. Bugner would beat him. And Frazier beat Bugner.

Easy fights. Easy nights. With time left to sing with the band. Going on stage to belt out a few classics since he hardly got warmed up.

Imagine Wilder's face even if he does get the big right in and decks Joe...uhhh, he not only got up but is clapping his gloves together and looking like he just started fighting....EEEEEK!

And I'm a fan of Wilder, he's my favorite heavyweight today.
