October 30, 1976 Duane Bobick, 37-0-0 (32 KO's), the #5 Ranked-Heavyweight was a 4-1 Favorite entering the bout versus Fred Houpe. Duane also had a couple of wins over Fred in the amateurs. Suprisingly, it was Fred Houpe who exhibited better boxing skills over the first '3' Rounds, and built up a lead on the scorecards. The 'betting favorite' Bobick made his charge in Round 4, and started to unload his heayy arsenal on the smaller Houpe, by using a deliberate body assault in Rounds 4 thru 6, taking the play away from Houpe. At the end of Round 6, Redd Foxx, Fred Houpe 'Young Sanford's' Manager, tried to instill some confidence in his fighter, by entering his corner at the end, and gave him a 'pep talk'. Unfortunately, Round 7 was the worst round for Fred Houpe, as he was rocked by some heavy punches from Bobick. Duane Bobick maintained the pressure, and was strong in Rounds 8 and 9, as he again hurt and rocked Fred. Entering Round 10, Duane Bobick had built a solid lead on all scorecards. In Round 10, Duane was content to box and try cruise to a comfortable 10-Round Decision win, but Fred Houpe suprised Bobick with a few heavy punches, and rocked the 'Minnesota-Brawler' with a blistering 3-punch combination. Though Fred Houpe "Young Sanford lost a Unanimous 10-Round Decision, he left a lasting impression on the boxing press, with his 'last round attack'.
