‘Murder in soho - who shot Freddie Mills’ - on BBC IPlayer. Had a style like Hatton, but fought at light heavy - big personality of his time - well worth a watch. Any other good boxing docs on past British fighters out there?
Good footage of Mills though - never heard of him before - exciting fighter. Found a Randolf Turpin doc on YouTube. Doesn’t seem to be many though - must be more past fighters worthy of a film/doc other than Ali (as good as they are)
Hi Mc, I've recently seen this documentary myself - which of the theories have been debunked please? By all means PM me if you wish; I find this a very interesting story...
From Bournemouth left Bournemouth women stopped getting murdered moved to London women start getting murdered physco *****
I can do no better than recommend the following book to you," Fighters " The Lives & Sad Deaths Of Freddie Mills And Randolph Turpin.by James Morton.
Which women were murdered in Bournemouth during Mills time there as an adult? ps If you are going to accuse someone of being a psycho without one shred of evidence or proof, someone who by the way ,was never at any stage in the frame for the murders. You might at least spell the word correctly!
I downloaded this documentary to watch from BBC iPlayer and before I got the chance to, it disappeared from my Sky planner. I suppose it must've expired or something. Will need to try and get it again.
Thanks Mc, I will get this. PS - long story short, was Morton of the opinion that Mills killed himself or was murdered please? A friend of my late Mother apparently knew Mills well and was convinced (like many others) that there was no way Mills would have committed suicide. But we hear that about many who do actually commit suicide...
Good doc - the link to the murders of women in London was absolute nonsense btw. Who knows where that came from originally but there is a fairly obvious prime suspect for those killings who wasn’t known to police at the time but is now... Didn’t know much about him before but managed to transcend the sport and was a great fighter. Who knows what really happened in terms of his death, seemed very suspicious. Most likely owed someone dodgy money, not sure about it being the mafia, as is suggested in the documentary but seems likely it was something gangland/money related.
But wasn’t the gun found next to him rather than in the position it would have been had he killed himself?
Mad Frankie Fraser is a potential source of the rumour (apparently). Mills was never considered a suspect by police, and other than rumour and innuendo there isn't anything obvious to link him to the case. It's about as credible as the theory that Joseph Merrick was Jack the Ripper, on the basis that they were both in London at the same time (what more evidence do you need...?). It isn't known exactly how Mills (or Turpin) died. There is a fixation though in some quarters where everything has to be linked to a cinematic conspiracy theory, when the most obvious explanation is generally the most likely. Depression isn't exactly rare in professional sportspeople, and boxers are probably more prone than most.
