Freddie Mills

I can remember walking back from watching a football match in 1979 with a boxing news annual that I'd just been given and in it was a story stating there was no way Mills took his own life, he had too much to live for.
I'd read the Jack Birtley book and listened to older blokes, ex fighters and fans alike; none of them believed he had either.
As i was walking I had just caught up with a bloke who'd been a boxing trainer before I took the sport up and with it being before PC this bloke, in blunt fashion mentioned Mills sexual preferences.
I asked my dad when I got home about this bloke (Jack) saying Mills was gay and he looked at me as if to say "so what??"
And it didn't bother me either.
I'm 99% sure Mills was shot because of being in debt to a pair of London gangsters

 

Gosh, sometimes a "pretty horrible story" to some folks is actually a love story to others, I reckon. I mean, a love of killing, but still. Let's not put judgments into the facts, Griff.
