Trainer Freddie Roach says WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan will bust up Juan Manuel Marquez in the same fashion as he did Marco Antonio Barrera last year. Khan is close to a deal to fight Marquez on May 15 in Las Vegas. Roach told Gareth Davies of The Telegraph that Khan will break Marquez up.

“This is the right fight at the right time for Amir. Yes, Marquez is dangerous, but Amir will do to him what he did to Marco Antonio Barrera in Manchester last year. He’ll break him up,” Roach said.
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer sees big things for Khan. He says a win over Marquez will assist Khan in a big way to make his mark in America.

“It’s a dangerous fight, but it’s a ‘high risk-high reward’ strategy. If you want to capture the American market this is the way to do it, by beating the best current, active No 1 Mexican fighter out there. Win, and Amir makes his mark in the United States,” Schaefer said.

A Barrera job? I think it'll be a bit harder than that.

They will be using the same tactics thats for sure. Its a shame that head butt disrupted the fight and MAB was then handicapped for the rest of the fight, bullshyt!

But i would like to see Amir progress and make his mark..

The headbutt did have a lot to do with that fight, but regardless Khan showed superior handspeed and confidence and picked his shots well. Barrera was trying to revive his career, while Marquez still has some fights left in him. His knockout of Diaz shows he still has power and technique. He might not handle the weight that well, but no way in hell will speed alone conquer Marquez. Did Roach forget about his favorite fighter's toughest challenges? As a counterpuncher, JMM is precise once he gets into his rythm. I'm hoping that age and weight doesn't drag him down, but this will be no easy fight for Khan, regardless of who wins.

So lets expect to see a clash of heads, and the ref to hold off until the 4th is finished for Khan to claim a soft Victory.

So a nasty cut on his forehead to bloody his face and impair his vision and then have the ref/doc stop it in the 5th round so that they can go to the score cards. This is on the list? Yay!

    Freddy Roach is a jackass.

For like the 100th time, JMM is not only a bigger name, but he's probably a better fighter and a better test than Maidana. He's gonna give Khan more things to think about in that ring, whereas against Maidana, all Khan would need to do is box and move.

Also, it's not as if Khan has said flat out 'No' to Maidana. It's just been put off for the time being, so that he can make his US entrance on a bigger scale (hence the choice of Marquez!). I'm pretty certain he'll be put in with Maidana after the next fight or two.

Back to the topic of the thread, I can see why Roach has made the comparison. JMM is just as great as Barrera was, and is in the same mould too. However this'll definately be a harder test, as JMM is much more capable of toppling Khan.

    I'm picking JMM to win

Why not fight Maidana who is also coming into his prime like Khan??
