Trainer Freddie Roach is confident that unbeaten middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will win a major championship in 2011. Roach is in Mexico training Chavez for his fight with Billy Lyell on January 29. If victorious, Chavez will possibly return in May against unbeaten Sebastian Zbik for the WBC interim-middleweight title.................................:huh

If you send in the money for the belt, the UBO will send you the belt for any division that doesn't have a current "champ.", and any two fighters may fight for it. So, ya, Junior can win a title. Oh wait!! My bad! McKart is the UBO middleweight champ, so I guess Junior is out of luck.

He has enough clout and money behind him to almost buy a world title regardless of if he's ready for one or earned one. Their's no doubt in my mind Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. can become world champion, but ask yourself, what dose it really mean this day in age will all these paper belts and fake champions...its really nothing more than a trinket.

Its almost like someone wearing a fake gold chain, deep inside you know its fake your just wearing it for the look. Deep inside Roach knows Chavez Jr. isn't a real champion or at least he would't be its just the fact that now he'd be able to say "Yeah I've trained X-Amount of World Champions".

What will be very interesting is once Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. becomes World Champion fans are going to clamor even louder about the opposition he's facing and it'll be 10x more pressure on Top Rank to match him with a reasonable challenge.

But then again Bob Arum isn't really interested in matching his money makers with reasonable challenges........Just look at Pacqauio-Mosley.....nuff said.

If he keeps on improving like he has been under Roach, he will win a title some day! He has to work extremely hard though.

In my opinion true Champions need to have balls. Chavez jr won't be true champion, he showed that he is coward before fight with Wolak...

Yvon Michel, GYM president: "We already know Chavez Jr will not fight David, and Chavez Jr could be involved in a fight with Sebastian Zbik for the vacant WBC MW championship. We'll know more on this matter come Jan 7th where a purse bid for Martinez-Zbik is scheduled to go down in Mexico. If Martinez does not fight the interim champion, chances are the belt will be vacated." (post- Lemieux-Gates presser)

Chavez Jr will turn out to be the biggest ducker if he gets passed Zbik. Macklin, Barker, and (especially) Lemieux will all be asking for a shot.

Chavez hard already done more than people thought he could so I have nothing but respect for the guy. People thought this guy was just a tomato can at one point. That he would have a career like Ronald Hearns.

Of course he can... Not because of his skill, but because of the current "everybody is a winner" state of boxing.
If Roach said he's confident Julio jr. would beat a Ring top3 ranked MW for a title, I would have put serious questionmarks by the man's sanity.

Speaking of Ring Rankings at 160, Am I the only fan who wants to see #9 David Lopez knock the **** out of Junior?

I honestly have nothing against Junior, but that is the kind of win that would force promoters and sanctioning bodies to stop pretending Lopez doesn't exist.

    Sure he will,

Bob Arum will pay Jose Suliaman to strip Martinez. And the WBC will put their strap on the line between Chavez Jr. and probably Matt Vanda. Then the Bum Murder will have won a world title. Completely and utterly tissue paper of a title, but a title none the less.
