He is over hyped as a trainer, but you can't take away what he has achieved with some fighters (mainly Pac) and he has also brought Khan on big time.

Pacquiao has had his share of careful-matchmaking, but few could do what he did in many of those fights regardless of the condition they were in.

It's impossible for a fighter to constantly find young (but not green) accomplished (but not shot) undefeated (but not untested) fighters around his division every time out.

Roach's technical guidance allowed Pacquiao to accomplish things at weights that you'd be hard to find any other former featherweight competing at.

Chavez Jr. is still lackluster and untested, but Roach is making him perform better each time out. Khan has developed greatly; still young and lacking certain fundamentals, but at the top of his division and has climbed there impressively. Linares put on a great display against DeMarco before he was cut, and then showed great heart on top of it. DLH, despite losing, made a competitive fight against Mayweather despite being past his best. Roach's credentials, especially as an offensive specialist, are clearly there and have made a salient presence in the sport.

you say he is very good but then say he is overrated? I do not think most see him as anything but a "very good" tainer - maybe one of the best right now.

Pac won belts before the lil Roach. And if Pac is smart he'll be looking to Roberto Garcia soon anyway!

Who did Manny Steward train like that ?

Only tommy hearns- and its known Steward used to just show up for the media days as he was off getting multiple facial surgeries and slimmed down MJ style nose jobs- the mans a fraud !

What you foolishly fail to realise is that when a train becomes great- only top ranked champs go to them

its a good thing you idiot.

What top notch highly paid trainer is gonna sit around the amatuer fights for no money ?

Roach trainer under Eddie Futch and is emulating his success.

If I was starting out as a serious Boxer and had the choice, I'd get my fundamentals from somewhere else, Nazzim Richardson (He learned from the great Bouie Fischer) or Manny Steward, even Teddy Atlas, who I actually think would click well with me. Old school trainers who know old school tricks and techniques.

Freddie Roach, where as he worked under Eddie Futch, has his own style of training, he doesn't teach (to my knowledge) the subtle things someone like Richardson would show you, even Floyd Mayweather Sr.

I'd get my fundamentals from one of those I mentioned, and maybe see Roach for exposure and the finishing touches.

overrated because most the guys when he get them were already established pros and come on 5 time trainer of the year....inflated considering most of it comes from training one guy...Pac Man...who was still young and already a former champion....there very good, not great....therefore overrated

you must be twelve years old....yall are a trip insulting someone for a differnece of opinion.....what you fail to realize genius is that how can you be considered a great trainer if you havent even developed one guy from the beginning.....Dundee did it, Clancy did it, Steward did it, Eddie Futch did too.....dude is overrated....hope he proves me wrong and gets a guy with ten or less fights and makes him a great fighter until then. he is very good...not a great trainer...offensively minded but all his fighters lack something defensively...him being a former fighter thats how he fought

Roach reached his peak as a trainer in the middle of Pacs career. Thats when a lot of good prospects started comming his way, however he is not that good at training multible fighters and it shows. Lee had to leave, Quillian is not getting the3 attention he needs, Beltran just lost, Khan lost, and Lanares got stopped. Thats not good.

for sure aint great....his peak was when he was working with prospects a few years ago, as of late its not looking too good....Once Manny's gone its downhill from their unless he goes back to working with prospects and not established guys....as someone mentioned i know the sparring is great at wild card tho
