He doesn't seem to give good advice in the corner. Lampley said last night that he was surprised that Roach was giving no tactical advice to Chavez and just telling him to let his hands go. I wasn't. Chavez Sr. got a message to Jr. at the end of the 10th to stop trying to set his feet before he throws his shots and just punch on the move and then set his feet when Martinez is trapped. This is what was successful for Chavez. If that was 1 round more, I think Chavez would have pulled it out and stopped Martinez, who was badly hurt in fairness.
Dont wanna feed the troll but Chavez has to give some respect to the trainer for the trainer to commit in his work..
I think any trainer/cornerman who gains loads of attention has a tendancy to get really overated and seen as a guy who can make anyone superman look at manny steward was like freddy one time. angelo dundee before him
spot on mate. theres only so much a trainer can do with a fighter it depends on the fighter his ability and attitude and many other factors
Well I agree he is overrated because people are treating this guy as the worlds best trainer when he's clearly not. Pacquiao, Khan now Chavez tasted defeat I think Roach has been more fortunate to get already great fighters come to him but I don't think he really adds that much that said, doesn't mean he's a wack trainer, just overrated
