Everytime i hear freddie talk about mike he is always kind of hating on him. Manny had the most explosiveness tyson in his prime was more explosive. Why does he hate on mike? Do they have a feud or something.
Roach trained Mike for like one or two fights late in his career. Mike was most likely a ***** then and didnt train too hard or listen to advice
maybe he isnt hating on Mike:think maybe he did have a hard time when he was training a guy who only needed a trainer to work his corner:shock: Freddy says things all the time when he is asked and at least he says what he thinks and not what someone expects him to say.:deal As mentioned already, maybe Roach just got him when Tyson was at his worst as far as attitude goes? AND its not like mike was allways everyones sweetheart like he seems to be these days:hat
Part of it might be anger at the fact that at one point, Mike Tyson fired Roach basically when it was decided that the Clifford Etienne fight was cancelled. That's when Mike said he had the flu but that same weekend he went out and got the face Tattoo. But the truth is the last two times Tyson looked like a trained fighter was with Roach. He was 227 against Etienne, absolutley in great shape. He looked great agaisnt Williams until his knee went out. I always say if Tyson would have trained with Roach for Kevin McBride, he would have won. But here's the thing with Freddie. When he thinks a guy should stop, he refuses to work with them if the boxer keeps insisting on fighting. From what I understand, Freddie said after Tyson lost to Williams that they were going to talk about it, and if Mike felt he should continue fighting, then that was "his perogitave", as roach said, basically meaning he was on his own...
I agree with all of this. Also, although Mike put in work with Freddie and got into pretty descent form as you say, he still wasn't 100% committed to anything at that point including roach as a trainer. I remember seeing behind the scenes stuff around the Ettiene fight and it showed that mike would often do his own thing and Freddie kind of just dealt with it. This and the brief firing you mentioned i'm sure grates on roach a bit to taint his view a little bit on tyson. Plus, as good as his hand speed was while working with roach, tyson was in his mid 30's so roach wouldn't really know. Yeah Roach had tyson looking pretty fit and dangerous for a brief period and if mike would've dedicated himself more to him and the sport, who knows what more could've been accomplished. Tommy Brooks also helped tyson look pretty good briefly around 99-01....tyson screwed his own late career up
Apparently Mike dropped Freddie by accident whilst working the pads. Freddie said proudly that Mike didn't knock him out.
He doesn't hate Mike, he Hate how Mike used to half ass it while he was training him latter in his career, Roach was trying to reform Tyson, and the fights he trained Tyson, Mike looked great. But Mike was busy getting high, not putting the work in the gym, and strictly being satisfied with taking a beating for a check.
