"manny, i could tell him something and he would pick it up right away. but, with oscar, it was not that way. i had to repeat it many times."

in his interview with the great sugar ray leonard

Uhhh, Oscar was at the end of his career...

Ever hear, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks"?

Oscar was a fast learner in his youth and prime like most good and great fighters... He was very versatile... But even the Great RJJ couldn't be taught a good trick or two once he was removed from his prime.

Is Roach dumb? Does he realize even Pacquiao would not learn the shoulder roll, or the art of defensive fighting and counter punching?

Roach talks a lot of ****, but crys like a ***** when they talk **** to him.

Interesting... Because someone taught Oscar how to throw his masterful left hook. Someone taught Oscar how to develope his grat jab. Someone taught Oscar how to box on his toes, how to use the shouder roll, how to not get KTFO or dominated in his prime...

Infact, I think its safe to say Prime for Prime Oscar was more powerful, had a better jab, had more power, better footwork, and better feints than Pacquiao.

So why didn't he teach Manny to beat JMM more convincingly? ****ing Roach talking more PR bull**** AGAIN. How about he spends less time talking **** about people and more time teaching Pacquiao and Khan a little inside game? Khan especially is gonna need it.

Took Pac years to get his right hand where it needed to be. I guess that's different than teaching the concept as opposed to getting it down.

While I agree with this, I have to play the devil's advocate here and say that maybe Oscar needed to be told things a lot before he mastered them. That doesn't mean he is a lesser fighter, it just means he might be a different type of learner. If this is true it's just a testament to how dedicated a fighter he was. This is, of course, assuming that he did in fact need to be told things several times. However, as you have astutely pointed out, DLH was at the tail end of his career when he trained with Roach. By then he probably already had his habits formed and of course it would be harder for him to "learn" or "unlearn" things given that he had been doing them for years. Anyway, this isn't to contradict you or anything, just thought I'd play devil's advocate.

Roach isn't talking ****. That's not even his quote. You have to watch the interview for yourself. start at 6:20. he says there's nothing wrong with it that's just how it was.

I remember Roach saying he had to teach Oscar how to cut ring off, Some people take things on board quicker then others.

What has Pacquiao really learned from Freddie Roach as far as progressing boxistically and not just physically?

I say based on the last Marquez fight, Pacquiao has'nt progressed much if at all.

    It's just timing.

Oscar's was a finished fighter at the stage Freddie trained him, Oscar's mind and heart wasn't in the fight game anymore. He'd already done everything and was moving on. Where as Freddie got a hungry Pacman who was eager to learn in the States, his mind was on it and easy to mold.

I was about to say the same thing. Considering their styles knowing how to cut off the ring is much more important for emmanuel
