according to frank warren in his usually bollocks column in the sun newspaper.:think

''BAD news, Ricky Hatton — Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach is pushing for Joe Cortez to handle their May 2 bout in Las Vegas.

Cortez was third man for Hatton-Mayweather and wasn’t popular with the Hitman, who said he disrupted his performance''.

anyone heard this from a more reliable source?

Wait for excuses from Hatton fans after the fight then claiming it wasn't fair.

It's only fair when Hatton is allowed to freely throw elbows, headbutts, lowblows, rabbit punches, hold and hit and random shoves. Like he did all night with Tszyu to earn a "historical" victory which was disgraceful.

Hatton fans can insult this post all they want but no one can deny the circus that happened during the Tszyu fight, even ****ing Hatton gave the referee some weird looks and was almost telling the referee in there "I'm done holding and hitting, you can break us now". Anyone that uses this Cortez story as an excuse for Hatton not being able to apply cheating tactics is an idiot.

Can't see that in a fight of this magnitude either camp would want a joke referee like Cortez.

Pacquiao wouldn't want to run the risk of being disqualified just because he was in the middle of pummeling a ducking Hatton to the head and Hatton's gloves happened to touch the floor before the last punch of the combination landed. He would prefer to know beforehand what style of referee he will get, not have to wait and see whether the Joe Cortez that turned up was the one who refereed Hatton v Mayweather or his identical and identically named twin brother with the very different interpretations that refereed Calzaghe v Hopkins.

    Roach is just ****-stirring.

Give it a rest. That fight was "six of one, half a dozen of the other". Zoo was fouling, low blowing in there as well (he initiated the low blows in fact) but both fighters got on with it and Zoo certainly didn't whinge about it afterwards. People will say thats because Zoo is such a gentleman but its more likely that he accepts that prizefighting is a rough sport and he was just involved tough title fight.

I don't see what Cortez has to do with either the Zoo fight or the upcoming Pac fight? He didn't ref the former and certainly won't be reffing the latter.

As much as I dislike Hatton, Joe Cortez RUINED the Mayweather fight, absolutely ruined it for every neutral. Its not an excuse, he ruined the fight PERIOD.

Joe Cortez should be banned from big fights.

Cortez didn't affect the winner of the Mayweather-Hatton fight but he spoiled it as any kind of contest. Then he does the complete opposite when reffing Hopkins-Calzaghe.

I gotta agree... Cortez was f---ing ridiculous in there that night!!! :blood

I still think Ricky would have lost, but it would have been nice if he didn't have to fight 2 guys at once. :-(

Roach is just yanking their chain.

seems to me roach wants every available advantage possible. cortez will no way be involved since he's had so many balls ups since floyd/hatton. wbc ref of the year shold be the 3rd fella in the ring - kenny bayliss.
