saying his son will 'whoop mannys ass' “They can have that opinion,” the bespectacled trainer told Michael Woods of ringtv.com “If I was his father, I might say that too! But I think Manny beats Floyd, breaks him down, and knocks him out before it’s over.” Roach pointed out that the skills of Mayweather, who turned 37 Thursday, have declined and that Pacquiao appears to be the “fresher” fighter. “In watching Floyd’s career, he’s definitely slowed down somewhat. Manny has also some, everyone ages. But I think Manny’s legs are fresher than Floyd’s. Against [Chris] Algieri, Manny boxed really good, good rounds the whole time,” he explained. “When Floyd sits down and rests, Manny will catch him. Floyd is a defensive master. But he takes rests. And the only place to do it is on the ropes,” Roach added. Pacquiao flashed his deadly form in Macau last year when he knocked down Algieri a jaw-dropping six times en route to a lopsided decision. His trainer believes the Filipino icon has what it takes to deal Mayweather the first loss of his career. “Floyd can look at Manny, think he has pretty fast hands, punches pretty hard. But you don’t really feel it until you’re in there with him. He has devastating power, and he jumps in so suddenly. He still has the power and speed to get a KO,” Roach also said fresher fighter? really...
Watching Maidana 1 and 2 I agree with him. Floyd didn't look all that good being countered by Maidana at times which is ridiculous. That said I'm not sure if Floyd was really motivated t fight an obviously inferior fighter like Maidana. I expect better Floyd against Pac and at the moment I expect a close maybe controversial distance fight for either of them.
i agree with Freddie, but Floyd did improve from the first Madonna fight. he'll be hyped for Pac and give it all he has.
But he was still on the ropes more than usual in the later rounds. It looked like it could be leg fatigue, and I refuse to believe he wasn't conditioned well. Mayweather is always in tip-top shape.
All Manny has to do is win 5 rds and stay on his feet until the end, and the rest will be taken care off...
I think floyd knows that he cannot allow manny to outwork him I think we see the floyd that fought sugar shane who tries to hold the center of the ring and get pac on the back foot
this would Mayweather do, as he always does when fighting southpaw.. Try to look at Floyds punch output when fighting southpaw, it's always higher than his average..
i always favoured floyd to win on points, but maidana 1 made me think pac could win through greater activity - pac won't gas half way through like maidana did. although i still reckon floyd on points.
Floyd turned 38, not 37, and his birthday was yesterday, not Thursday. I know because I turned 53 yesterday, old geezer that I is.
This. Floyd's performance was like night and day vs Maidana and Canelo. He didn't seem hungry to me anymore.
It made for a fun fight and Garcia made great work preparing Maidana but come on he should be two full levels below close prime Floyd.
I agree with Alex above in terms of Mayweather's motivation. I have voted in the polls, however, for Floyd by decision and think Pac's only real chance comes if he has an additional gear to shift into once Floyd starts making it his fight. I think Pac should hold off to some degree. We've all seen Floyd figure fighters out then relax and start taking pot shots and countering. I think if Pac could put the pedal to the floor at that point, and not necessarily at the start of the fight, he could win more rounds. The fight IMO will definitely be won between rounds 7 and 12. I expect it to be fairly even after 6.
