Freddie Roach & Shane Mosley - What changed?

    “I have to protect my fighter,” said Roach, who administered the terms for Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya last year. “I spoke to Shane and told him that we would fight him at 142. He said he can’t make that weight.”

    "Shane came to the gym twice to ask me to let him fight Manny," Roach says. "I told him no both times, and both times for the same two reasons: First, there isn't enough money there, and second, you're too good a fighter."

    They chose Cotto instead.

    Cotto is Top Rank; Shane is GBP.

    What changed is that Shane is now trying to negotiate on his own, outside of GBP.

    see what he says right from the beginning.


    "It's (Mosley) definitely a fight we're interested in."

    "It would have to happen at 142, 143, otherwise we're giving away too much weight and too much advantage."

    The weight was always the issue. At that time, Pac had just weighed in at 138. He might still weigh the same on fight night but he's filled into the division now and showed that he can handle the extra pounds on his opponent. That was still an uncertainty at the time.

    Pac is now a true WW whereas before they were unsure if he could take a WW punch.

    Evident in Pac's post fight interview in why he allowed Cotto to hit him against the ropes.

    At one point Hatton was too big for Pac too, whats changed? Things change.

    You'd have to be really thick-headed to believe Roach was serious when he told Mosley hes too good.

    They were on the verge of signing a fight with Cotto and Roach was trying to be as polite as he could to Shane who took the time to travel all the way there just to inquire about a possible fight with Pac. It was one of those rare moments when Roach was seriously just talking out of his ass.

    So you don't believe that it has anything to do with Mosley's recent performances? Can the same be said for the Margo, Clottey, Cotto, Hatton and DLH fights or is it just a strange coincidence that Pacquiao's recent fights were guys coming off recent losses, sometimes devestating ones?

    Isn't Marquez a better fight right now?

    The Floyd dick sucker brigade will always bring up this Roach bull **** and take it out of context. Its obvious that Roach at the time thought JR Welter was Pacs limit and that Welter was too heavy.

    :good took my words right from me. listen haters, pac went from 135 to beat oscar, u mean to tell me he's ready to take on a steroid user who just beat the ish out of the main guy at the time. haters show no love to manny with the defeat of oscar saying he was drained, (still a mystery on people can hate on that because manny is going up 2 weight classes, they had to meet somewhere in the middle, people expect manny to fight oscar at 154 when he's coming from 135??) Once manny showed he can compete at that level, it don't matter who the f it is, they can have it
