It's obvious at what changed from then until now.

When Pacquiao defeated DLH, Pacquiao had only fought at Welterweight ONCE after jumping from 135.

Remember, Roach said they wanted Mosley AFTER Pacquiao defeated Cotto and then Clottey. Then Roach considered Pacquiao able to hang with the Welterweights.

He has said that Mayweather would never fight Mosley (actually happened) and that they would challenge Mosley since that's the next big money fight after he won against Berto. But then the unthinkable happened.

Berto pulled out. And then Money dominated Mosley. And then now, Roach said who cares because Mosley has completely underperformed.

At this point in his career, Roach has no say to who Pacquiao fights. That's Arum's job now. He only prepares Pacquiao.

Roach never wanted the Margarito fight, and after Mosley embarassed himself in his last two fights, have said that he doesn't want the fight anymore. He wants to shut JMM up instead.

Arum wants Mosley if no Money, but what Arum wants isn't exactly what Roach wants.

Roach did not hesitate to give Manny his blessing to fight Cotto. But, Shane "was too good a fighter"....because, he looked "too good" against Margarito. Now...he looks like ****...so he is the next contestant on the Manny show. :verysad

You must've have tuned in to boxing only when floyd returned to fight Marquez lol. freddie Roach wasn't ashamed in saying that line. He made it clear and precise, Pac's foray at 147 is a one-time deal and only for money against Dela Hoya who couldn't pull the trigger.

Despite that, the whole world still believe that an old 147 lbs dela hoya could smash Pacquiao who was formerly a 130 lbs and 135 lbs fighter a few months ago. What was their basis, Dela hoya won every round against steve forbes at 150 lbs a few months ago. if you were to ask people then, Forbes who was Black and slick and bigger than pac has more chance to beat DLH than Pac. So 19 out of 20 journalists came out criticizing the fight saying Pac has no business fighting and killing himself at 147. they even threatened to boycott the fight that GBP went out of its way to sell the line that Oscar couldn't pull the trigger no more lol

What changed is Mosley is now the most hi-profile welter and highest money fight available. And Pac has now proven he can handle himself at 147. Those comments from Roach came before the Cotto fight. Roach wasn't yet sure if Pac could handle a real strong welter. He was protecting him, but isn't that his duty?

Say Roach had thrown Pac straight in against a very strong welter, like Mosley who damn near killed Margarito and has knocked out Jr Middleweights. Imagine Pac ended up being Gamache'd. You all would be hating on Roach even worse for selling Pac out and sacrificing him just to get a payday.

Anyway, I believe Pac would've fought Mosley if he was available after Mayweather-Pac negotiations broke down. Mosley was contracted to fight Berto.

No...been watching the sport long before that. So, toss that out of the window.

What I don't understand is that you don't see an issue with the clear cowardice in this statement. The fight was a sham...and that was somehow cool to you. :huh

it wasn't cowardice. there's a lot of risk involved. Pac was a former flyweight champ and people thought he was already over-achieving by jumping to 135lbs and winning a belt. If you were following the sport then, you'd have known that. Now people went crazy when it was announced Pac was jumping two more weight classes to fight at 147 against DLH, old as he was. That's like three weight classes jumped in the span of a year. And Pac was not getting any younger either, he's been in too many wars with barrera, morales and marquez, and been fighting for more than a decade already- 12 years to be exact, been Ko'd and battered and basically done evrything in the ring. No matter what roach says like DLH will not pull the trigger, people still thinks the odds are not in favor of the over-reaching midget.

it does not help that months before that, DLH weighed at 150 lbs and won a shut-out over Forbes. People thought DLH would kill Pac with his jab and lefthook despite whatever Roach says. There are risks involved and the odds favor DLH, meaning people believed Pac was taking the greater risk in the fight. Was it cowardice for roach to say those words? not at all.

"The only thing permanent is change."

The only person who thought Pac would win against DeLa Hoya was PacDBest.

People tend to forget the context of Pac fighting DLH at that time. Let's put it this way, Donaire, a flyweight champ over-achieves and found himself winning a belt at superfeatherweight. That would be an outstanding feat. Now lets say he jumps one more and win a world title against a fringe champion at lightweight. That would be even amazing. Now Donaire says he's not yet done and wants a big money fight with Amir Khan at welterweight. Suppose Khan loses and donaire says he's dropping back at weight now. would it be cowardice if he rejects a 147 lbs fight with then welterweight champ Gamboa? lol, i'm speaking out of my ass now but donaire winning a lightweight belt and beating amir khan is unimaginable lol

Notice you sited what "PEOPLE THOUGHT" numerous times. Roach TRAINED ODLH against Floyd. He knew from that experience, preparing ODLH for that fight, Manny would have no issues....and he trained both Manny and OLDH, obviously. Tell me who would know better than him, what his fighter's chances were?

Roach brought in Calderon, then the WBO champion at 105-pounds, to prepare De La Hoya for last May's bout withFloyd Mayweather Jr. Roach claims that Calderon boxed De La Hoya's ears off and based on those sparring sessions - he knows that Pacquiao will be able to beat De La Hoya on December 6 in Las Vegas.

"After I trained Oscar, I realized he had trouble with smaller guys and southpaws. Oscar sparred with Ivan Calderon, the former 105-pound champion, when I trained him for the Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight because I wanted someone real quick. Calderon slapped Oscar around like it was unbelievable. I said between rounds one time, 'Oscar, I want you to hit him one shot to show him who’s boss.' He couldn’t do it," Roach said.

I know what you're gonna say though...."But, PEOPLE THOUGHT..." :bart

And Pacquiao is suppose to be a ATG. What changed between now and then is Mosley age. He's knocking on the door of 40, so he's the perfect opponent to deceive the gullible who believes that Pac is really that dame good. And they say Floyd is a cherry picker. If Pac fights Mosley, Arum is gonna hype the **** out of this fight. The same way he did with Margarito, although Mosley is a better fighter then Margarito he's not the same fighter he was a couple of years ago. The boxing world must really hate Floyd to keep giving this chump Pac a pass for the lame **** his Team is pulling.
