    Three questions.

    1. Has Cotto improved under the tutelage of Roach?
    2. What do you think of Eddy Reynoso as a coach?
    3. Who wins?

I think Cotto is doing some things a little better, but hard to gauge based on the quality of his opponents recently. We will see tonight.

I think Eddy Reynoso is a fantastic trainer for Canelo. I understand why people completely underrate Reynoso since his only name fighter is Saul Alvarez, but he is actually really good for a fighter like Canelo, and Reynoso's son adds the right energy imo.

Reynoso and Alvarez are a great team because you can tell both are humble and understand that careers are progressive. They both have the mentallity of improving, learning, and self belief which is probably MOST important.

If you look at the way Reynoso is in his personal life you'll understand why he will always be a great coach. He is continuously bettering something about himself. Reynoso comes across as a guy who has no limits. I have a lot of respect for him.

I think this fight will be Canelo's. He will use his better speed, reflexes, explosiveness, power, and better strenghth to win. IMO Cotto doesn't do well when he is getting hit to the body.

However, if Cotto's stamina has improved and he manages to fight on his toes, he may very well outbox Canelo, even pick him apart... But I doubt this scenario will play out.

My prediction is Canelo by mid to late KO unless Cotto goes on survival mode, then Canelo by UD.

    1. Roach has helped Cotto throw more combinations in exchanges. Also helped him use his right hand more effectively. Yet to see if he can implement this against top competition.

    2. Average. I'm curious as to what Canelo could accomplish with a more seasoned coach like Nacho or Floyd Sr

Average based on what? That he is new to the scene? I have seen Reynoso develop Canelo very well. I have seen so many improvements in Canelo's game since he came on the scene, I have to give Reynoso the benefit of the doubt, plus his attitude when it comes to self improvement is great.

No comparison. Freddy's an ATG, this other guy is unproven and unknown.

However, trainers are only a small part of what accounts for victory. When all of the advantages - age, size and power - are all on one side, odds are a wipe out is coming.

There were reasons people thought Cotto was declining before the Martinez fight, and these haven't disappeared. Alvarez is going to destroy Cotto.

There isn't any comparison, Roach has been an elite trainer for a long time. But Reynoso is a really good trainer and seems to be helping Canelo just fine.

You say it like average is a bad thing. He is no freddy roach i'll tell you that.

Average in that if Canelo never trained with him or chepo again he'd be just fine. He is not a necessity to Canelo like say Wolfe is to Kirkland.

And who is to say that a proven elite trainer couldn't mentally prepare Canelo better than the local trainers from Guadalajara?

Canelo is loyal to them though, thats for sure.

At this point I don't see a need for change.. Whatever they have going is working for them.
