I remember them showing Cotto jumping rope, appearing agile. Martinez they just showed bobbing under a rope while hitting a heavy bag. This whole thing stinks because Martinez' condition was a known by those "in the know." It is stuff like this that gives boxing a bad reputation.

Think about how boxing compares to other sports. The finals of the French Open in tennis are being played today. The guys who are playing in the finals have had to play grueling matches to get there. You can see exactly how each player is playing, a day before the big match. In boxing, you can't do this.

I agree with your assessment but Martinez style even though unfundemetal he made it work earlier in his career. But lt was bound to happen like every other fighter in history. Martinez wasn't faster than cotto last night but he was at one point in his career. There was also evidence of his decline in his last few fights, weather fans saw signs of his decline or not, they were there.

But like i said, it eventually happen to every fighter and it is magnified with fighters who rely in speed and athleticism. Heck just look at Roy Jones once he lost his abilities. It didn't take fighters as skilled as cotto to take him out.

Agreed and then how many times you see them doing something and then ask the cameras to leave .Thats the issue that plagues boxing ,the money comes first !

I agree 100%. Martinez has always been overrated. His amateurish skills almost got him demolished by a giant child (Chavez) with amateurish skills of his own. Martinez never fought a world class boxer until last night.

Martinez was a superb athlete in his prime, when his knees were good. He was unorthodox and a lefty, which made him all that much more problematic. But no fighter can fight properly if they can't set and throw punches. He could hardly stand up.

Freddie is the king of taking advantage. Main reason Pac has been successful in his career. He knows how to have the upper hand in fights.

Excellent comparison once those legs are gone and if you don't have those fundamentals to fall back on you become that stationary target .

his knee hurts everytime he tries punching cotto to the body. and everytime martinez sees a left hook coming, his mind's first reaction was to weaken the knee to brace for an impact, hence the 3 KD in the 1st rd.

Agreed ,his balance seemed terrible after the first KD as well ..Who knows he could have been fighting through a concussion ..I mean he did do a face plant as well .

Instead of thinking Sergio was never that good because he didn't start until later in in his life, I think in reality it's best to think that he actually is good because he did what he did yet didn't even start boxing until later in life.

Anyone can start boxing late in life, but not everyone can reach the peak that Sergio did.

It's pretty admirable and amazing if you look at it rationally.

Not taking into account your pre-fight opinions and predictions I must say Martinez simply displayed the same movement he's used his whole career and Cotto was able to anticipate and time. Look at the first left hook that landed on Martinez it was as if Cotto just followed the script Martinez circled left with a straight right jab and Cotto countered over the top with a left hook as if he knew what Martinez would doÂ…shorten the distance cut the ring and force the guy to exchange with you at a distance where you leverage is at its peak and his is smothered.

Simply put Cotto was and always has been the better classic "boxer" when compared to Sergio…..Martinez has nothing to be ashamed of the man has accomplished plenty and is an awesome fighter just never has had great fundementals
