Anyone else disappointed in what Roach brought to the table last night? Yeah, fair enough, it's Floyd, he's not exactly easy to figure out, but it was disappointing that he seemed to give Pacquiao little in the way of leadership and direction in the fight. Yeah, we didn't hear every exchange between rounds, but when we did he didn't seem to be offering many ideas or much of a game plan. He's been planning for this fight for 6 years, I thought there'd be more.
I can't figure out why, the few times in the earlier rounds he had Floyd up against the ropes, he didn't work at an angle a little more. Just stood right in front of Floyd and threw a lot of punches
Roach realised after the 1st two rounds what they had got into, Marquez x5, I honestly think he was too shocked by what was happening to manny to give any decent advice, for a 7x trainer of the year that was poor
Meh! Life goes on. All parties got very well compensated. They may have actually all got together afterward for a beer and had a laugh at our expense.
Like we've seen 47 others do and it clearly doesn't work! Roach watched the same **** from Pacquaio for 12 rounds and apparently didn't offer another approach or some fresh ideas at any point?
Yes. It was dreadful - and this is coming from a Mayweather guy - but I was expecting a stern challegene. What's worse is Roach had been talking like he had the masterplan and all these different ways for Pacquiao to adapt depending on how the fight is going. All this talk about setting traps, using angles, not following Mayweather in straight lines (he did). I saw less than nothing from Pacquiao and a lot of that is down to Roach. Mayweather Sr. was right last night, Freddy did look like the "joke coach". Not trying to be disrespectful but he needs to retire along with Pacquiao; it's clear his disease is hindering his ability as a coach. He has nothing left.
The only time he had Floyd against the ropes was when Floyd let him --- to see what Pac had. Pac had nothing. Plus Floyd was blocking everything. Pac couldnt hit him in the ass.
Exactly. I mean I know Bradley's no Mayweather, but at least in the second Bradley fight Pac stepped even a couple inches to the left or right and found different angles to place his punches...i know its not exactly the same but its at least an adjustment he made instead of stand directly in front of the guy
Almost feels like Roach's entire game plan was based on the idea that Floyd's legs were shot and he wouldn't be able to use the ring, therefore he was going to have stand and engage with Pacquiao and the whole fight woul just be a matter of getting past the shoulder roll..hence his constant pre-fight predictions based on Manny's speed and combination punching. Seemed like he went all-in on that theory and then when Floyd proceeded to dance around he had no plan B
same here i'm a fan of both fighters and respect them both, but i expected floyd to win even back in 2009. but i couldn't believe how bad pacquiao was
It does seem like exactly what happened.. and if that's the case it's shocking ineptitude for a coach at Roach's level. Just disappointing all round from Pac and his team.
It's like prosecution and defense attorneys working together to negotiate plea deals. Manny lost the fight in the ring and won finacially outside of it
Like Judah said, Roach never built a fighter from the ground up, and made him a champion. Him being white and ill is why, he's gotten the praises and awards by boxing writers. Roger or Floyd should have got it, once or twice. Considering they built a fighter who turned out to be the best of this era.
