Freddie Roach, considered the best trainer in the world by many, told all that Bernard Hopkins was DONE as a fighter. B-Hop just beat an undefeated fighter who is considered by all to be top 8 p4p, top 3 punching power p4p, and a guy who beat Jermain Taylor 2x. Thoughts?
The case about going to the wrong corner was a joke anyway, even Hopkins commented on it and claimed that he knew the fight was close and the pace was high so looking a bit weird in a situation like that is normal. Roach at least said what he believes, if he didn't care about Hopkins he wouldn't have said that as it could have worried anyone.
Yes, but roach also worked with hopkins for months preparing for the fight. Roach also is considered the top trainer in the world by many. The top trainer in the world would not have disuaded hopkins from this fight.
Freddy has a bit of a point. Nobody beats the clock. You may be able to drag it into extra innings like bernard has done but eventually it will catch you. I would like to see Bernard retire on top and not get hurt.
I bet Hopkins for a reason. Hopkins may have gone to the wrong corner 4 times, but Freddie is in bad shape at this point. That's the unfortunate reality. I don't trust him about Pacquiao either. He's losing it. Fast.
Everyone disuaded Hopkins this night, Roach can't be blamed for that. The only people in boxing that gave Hopkins a chance tonight were DLH and Mosley, both were laughed at for their picks because they were called "business partners" and "friends" who made the pick based on that, according to those people. Jermain Taylor hinted that Hopkins has a great chance and picked him to win, even he was laughed at for doing so because people assumed be made his pick because Pavlik beat him and because Hopkins lost to him. Not many deeply involved in boxing nor out of it gave Hopkins a chance tonight.
Yes. But Roach trained with hopkins for 2+months. Roach is considered the best trainer in the world by many...IMO, this should kill his reputation.
Kill his reputation?, why?, because he picked the man everyone else picked to win? Come on. It does make him look possibly bad or even dead wrong but not kill his reputation, that's too far.
No. Because he more or less said Hopkins was washed up and should retire. When you work with a fighter for 2+ months u should know (as an elite trainer), whether he still could beat world class fighters.
If it's based on that then sure you can say what you said, I don't agree with "killed his reputation" but for someone that actually worked Hopkins' corner he shouldn't have said he's beyond finished and should retire. If anything he showed he underestimated Calzaghe there than Hopkins.
