Steele showing good 15 round stamina, solid defense and consistent body punching along with his always potent left hook. Risko was a cagey, physically strong opponent but he was completely outboxed here.

Thanks GA for this terrifically clear film of the Steele/Risko bout. What a great middleweight era those days, and what a great truly unappreciated
fighter Freddie Steele was those days, til his breastbone injury....Note how strong these 2 guys were in the 15th round. Fighting often kept these guys in great shape....I have Steele even money with any MW since his time, with the exception of Ray Robinson. Steele was that good. :good

Steele has one of the best lead left hooks I've ever seen.

-Steele's left hook two minutes in was about as good as it gets. Great stuff, GreatA. It's why I subscribe to your channel!

While watching this I kept thinking of how fascinating Steele vs. Zale would have been. Which one was the other's "poor man" version? Steele didn't need a microphone in the ring for anyone to appreciate his wallops. Those body punches made me wince right along with Risko.

Zale by all accounts. Although I don't think their styles are too similar from what I've seen.

It's surprising Steele never managed to put Risko away when they fought.

McAvoy's one round obliteration of Risko is interesting in comparison.

It seems like he basically got caught with the first punch of the fight. Those things can happen. Risko was not too durable though.

Based on the reports of their third fight, Steele did not seem to press for a KO at all. Despite his power, he was completely content on settling for a points win as can be seen based on his KO record which is not overly impressive.

True.McAvoy was the bigger puncher, even if it was a best case scenario win for him.

Their respective lead rights to the body and left hooks look like mirror-images to me.
