Even the Keeds iron chin may not hold up under Steeles explosive arsenal.

freddie steele was the most underated middleweight champion in history, as a starter....Steele was the best of a pool of great middles, such as Fred Apostoli, Al Hostak, Solly Kreiger,Gorilla Jones, Ken Overlin, Ceferino Garcia, Gus Lesnevich, etc.all who he whipped, at their best....He had 125 fights, koing,60. and losing just 5 bouts.Great record... He suffered a fractured sternum, in a fight with Fred Apostoli, and it ended his career...A tough nut for any middleweight to crack, including Robinson, Hagler,etc...Steele I believe, would be too big for Kid Gavilan,[who I saw],,too rangy, and hit too hard ,for the welterweight Gavilan....Both great fighters in their divisions.....

Steele really impressed me when I first saw a tape of him in action. What a puncher.
