Cotto has very good skills and so does Pacman but what separates the 2 of them are mainly these 2 things :

1- Pacquiao is faster with his punches
2- Pacquiao doesn't need to set his feet like Cotto in order to through effective punches, which means that he gets them off from constantly different and odd angles, which makes it quite hard to adapt to.

Pacquiao has consistently improved point #2 over the last 2 years I would say and that's what makes him a special fighter today.

Cotto has great combos, can box well and counter effectively when needed but he doesn't have the defensive skills to counter point #2 from Pacman, as far as I'm concerned !

I think Manny's speed is grossely overrated .Where were those lightning fast pucnhes against JMM ?Those fights were more tactical ..Are Manny's fans thinking he will just strafe Cotto like he did Oscar or Hatton ?

This is going to be a boxing clinic by Cotto watch !

Kirk, you should know that much of your power is generated by your technique which would make it a skill. Anyway, Cotto is bigger than Pac, and according to you, is clearly more skilled than Pac. Despite this, Pac is a 2/1 fav. Given your opinion on the matter, you should be taking a good chunk of change and betting it on Cotto. I believe you're definately overrating Cotto's capabilities. But hey, the fights are decided inside the ring. And if the bigger and supposedly clearly superior Cotto struggles again or gets beat, then you may be forced to reassess how you view Cotto.

I heard the same thing prior to his bouts with Clottey and Margo. Neither one of those performances were a clinic. I doubt Cotto puts on a clinic in this fight either. He's never put on a clinic against anyone near the caliber of Pac.

I do think that Manny's speed is vastly overrated.

Vs a weightdrained DLH, vs Hatton and David Diaz even Yori Boy Campas would look like Sugar Ray Leonard.

Pac is quick, especially with his left, but he is no Sugar, that's for sure.

However, I don't think Cotto can absorb what Pac can dish out. I have been on record in the past saying that Cotto's chin is suspect,a nd his ability to endure punishment is too.

I really don't believe Cotto is on the decline. DLH was obvious although I still thought he would KO pac. Roach needs to shut up.

I have no doubt Cotto will win the fight, but i can also see him struggling... why? because pac is a great fighter. Skills arent everything.... and pac is no slouch in the skills department eather, and is indeed faster then cotto with concussive power, im simply saying cotto is more skillfull.

This imo WILL be a tough fight for cotto, because pac is great... but cottos skills, heart, will, and size will IMO see him through to a victory. And i would bet but ive never bet on boxing at a real place and not quite sure how it all works and whatnot... if i could find a person to bet then i would.

Anyone who thought Cotto would have an easy time with Margarito eather wasnt a student of the game, didnt know cotto that well... or didnt know margarito that well. Anyone could see from as early as the Ndou fight that Margarito was the type of fighter to give cotto problems, i thought Cotto was going to win a very rough rough decision,

    http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59666

but i knew it would be one of his toughest fights. Clottey represents the same kind of problem for Cotto, just with a little more quick punches with a bit more pop, but a decline in activity and overall pressure.

If anything, pac will have success early on in trades with his speed and power, hurting cotto, cotto will start to box tactfully, slowly breaking pac down, and pac will die a death of a thousand left hooks to the body.... (with cottos jab constantly landing when pac gets close) with cotto slowly overtaking the flow, pace, and momentum in the fight as he starts to break cotto down and then (IMO) stops him late....
ala a tougher and more dramatic Torres fight.

    just imo

so Cotto is shot? Why, because he has taken only the toughest fights against the toughest fighters that no one wants to fight? Lets see any other fighter face Judah, Mosley, Margarito, and Clottey and look pretty
doing it. Roach is a trainer, and a very good one, but he has no business
calling a fighter SHOT until they have proven so.
The reason Cotto does not look as impressive as he used to is because he is fighting big legit, elite, welters who can easily be Jr. middles in his last fights. Basically, Cotto has raised the bar, so obviously he will not look
overwhelming like he used to. He fights the best, We should not help kill the sport by calling the superstars of boxing SHOT. There is the reality of
being a SHOT fighter, like DE la Hoya was, but Cotto does not deserve to be labeled one. His last fight was against a rock solid fighter, and went 12 rounds with basically one eye the whole fight. Cotto did not fold, so give him his Props, and give Pac his props if he beats him...

I ****ing told you this is why he picked Cotto, just like he picked Hatton and Oscar. If Roach didn't think Cotto was damaged goods, he never would have let Pac fight him!!

I really hope Roach's cherry picking for Pac comes back to bite him in the ass and Cotto pummels Pac into a bloody mess, and humiliates him like Morales did. It is very possible!
