Here's some recent quotes from one of the original Team Pac cornermen, back in the 1990s.

    __________________

Manny Pacquiao's former American trainer, Rick Stehely, recently spoke about his former fighters' upcoming bout with the tough and durable Joshua Clottey. Stehely was in the corner the night Pacquiao scored an 8th round knockout over Thailand's Chatchai Sasakul to win the first of his seven world titles - the WBC flyweight crown.

“I think this is a kind of an easy fight for Manny. Clottey is bigger and is physically stronger but Manny’s got everything else. He’s got the speed, he’s got the skills plus Clottey is a blocker. It's almost like if Manny goes out there and throws punches in bunches, he doesn’t have to hit him hard.”

“Every now and then crack him hard but just touch him, move a little bit and I can see Clottey sitting up there with his hands over his face most of the fight and when he does open up Manny nails him with a good shot because of his speed.”

I've never understood why since the DLH fight, Freddie Roach has talked down Pacquiao's opposition as "not being very good."

......I always felt that he was taking away credit by talking down an opponent like that.
    "DLH cant pull the trigger"........

    Hatton's a joke.....

Cotto's cornerman are a joke, they dont know what they're doing........

I've alway wondered why Roach would take away from Pacquiao's victory like that......but now I fully understand why he's done it.......

Its all crystal clear to me.......he's brought down the opponent so as to create the illusion that Manny's feats have alot to do with bad opposition, and so that people would be less suspect of Pacquiao's PED use.

After each fight, Roach has gone on a "I told you so, I told you he was'nt any good.........

When the reality is he's been protecting Pacquiao from suspicion all along.......

.......and not that Pac's opponents have been the cream of the crop, but they have definitely not been the slouches that Roach has described pre-fight.

I see now that he's going to do the same with Clottey and tear his weaknesses up through the media before Manny knocks him out.

Freddie Roach's actions now are becoming transparent its embarrassing!:-(

I see that you're fully strapped on to the "Pac Is Juicing" runaway express train, now, eh Divac?

And no way of getting off of it, probably?

    That's OK.

Thats Roach marketing himself:yep. He needs to believe what he's doing and thats breaking down a fighters style. This encourages other boxers to get him as their trainer:hey. On the other hand, it makes Pac opponents sensitive to their own style, it affects how they fight. When Roach openly break them down from strengths to weaknesses, they tend to adjusts consciously and end up playing Roach's predictions. Roach see's whats wrong with a fighter and he will exaggerate and throw you off your mental game.

Bula, I'm perturbed.......perturbed at the media for not making more of the fact that one of boxing's best refuses to obide by a drug testing protocol thats not a joke.

There are a few journalist out there that have written about it, but not enough imo.

These PED users need to be accounted for......and when the media is not on it asking Manny tough questions and letting him have a free ride........thats dissapointing.

Whether Manny is guilty or not is beside the point.
The media's job is to keep these athletes honest, and when you dont ask the tough questions, you're basically letting these guys have a free ride.

I'm being straight foward and honest. Manny Pacquiao's refusal to test legitamately when we all know the current method is a complete joke, is disturbing to me.

I dont like it.....and I will continue to voice my displeasure of it.

Ahhhhh, but I still consider you my internet buddy Bula.:good

Bull****.......Roach only started his abuse of badmouthing opponents capabilities at the DLH fight, I'm sorry, but I'm 100% sure in my belief that was not a coincidence!

I kinda remember him saying Morales has no head movement and his head is always out there to be hit, and he loves to mix it up so he'll get hit a lot.

    Larios: He has no chance.

    Velasquez: He has no chance.

    Solis: He has no chance.

Diaz: No way is he gonna win

I disagree Divac, i honestly think Roach is just calling it how he sees it. He was open and honest about his thoughts on cotto, at first he said it would be easy, then after watching a lot of cottos fights to study him, he said it would be hard, but that he thinks cotto has declined, and his corner is bad and his mistakes are not being corrected (and really, 99% of the people would agree with this)

and in the end, hes been 100% right about just about all of pacs big matchups of late. He even said Cotto would start running and then want to quit....

I just think Roach is honestly calling it like he sees it, but yes you would think he would show a bit more respect to pacs opponents so as to make pac look better.

    OK. Me too.

    History will decide this thing.

We'll see in 10 years, what the people will think of all this.

Thats it right there. Trainers including Roach himself have always refrained from letting out what they believe are the opponents weaknesses.

It not only takes away from the accomplishment, but it at the same time alerts an opponent to what the battleplan from the other side may be.

Yeah, sometimes camps jab at eachother and put eachother down, but not in the fashion that Roach has done since the DLH fight.

In fact, I know that you know that Roach has always been a trainer that was well likes and respected here in this forum.......but since he started with this verbal abuse, I know you have seen that more posters around here are starting not to like Roach.

I do honestly believe Roach's purpose for doing this is to detract from people's suspicion of Pacquiao.

Its perfect pschology......you prepare the audience for what is to come so that afterward they dont ask questions as to how and why Manny was able to do it.

Its psychology 101 here my friend, and up to now, Roach has played it perfectly.......

.....just a few of us have caught on!:D:yep
