French Boxer & Olympic Medalist Alex Vastin passe away last night in Helicopter Crash

    Sports world faced great loss last night. Three French sports stars were among 10 people killed in a helicopter crash in Argentina.

    1). Camille Muffat: Gold Medalist Swimmer

    2). Alexis Vastine : Bronze medalist, 2008 Beijing Olympics, light-welterweight category

    3). Florence Arthaud : Sailor

    He was blatantly robbed twice at the Olympics. He should have had a run at pro boxing. He had talent but sticked to the his Olympic dream, which destroys his career even though there is just enough money in French boxing for the best to make a decent living.

    I should add that Vastin's younger sister died in a car crash at 22, just two months ago. I can't even imagin how hard it must be for their parents. How unlikely and sad is this ?

    R.I.P. Alexis Vastine. He won a lot of medals and should have had more because he got the short end of two very dubious points 'decisions' (robberies) at both the Olympic Games he boxed in.

    Vastine (RIP) getting robbed in the Olympic semi-final. I don't think I've ever seen a fighter be more upset by getting robbed than this. The poor guy was absolutely devastated.

    I really feel for his parents too as they'd also just lost a daughter in a road accident only two months earlier. :-(

    'The father of an athlete among the 10 killed when two helicopters collided mid-air has spoken of his grief after he lost his daughter in a road accident just two months ago.

    French Olympic bronze medallist Alexis Vastine died in the tragedy on Monday while taking part in a reality TV show 'Dropped', along with fellow star athletes, swimmer Camille Muffat, sailor Florence Arthaud, and seven others.

    Sports officials, relatives and friends paid respects at the Paris headquarters of the national sports institute, INSEP.

    His father, Alain Vastine, told French TV news channel i>TELE that Alexis' sister, Celie, died in a car crash in Normandy just two months ago.

    Sobbing, he said: "To lose two children in two months - life is unfair."

    "Fate inflicts on us this new suffering. It's terrible, horrible.

    "It is a cursed family," the boxing coach added, as reported in the Metro.

    Mr Vastine watched at INSEP headquarters as friends laid flowers before enlarged photographs of the three dead sports stars and a minutes' silence was held.

    Alexis, 28, won bronze in London and was preparing intensely for another bid for gold at the upcoming Brazil Olympics next year.'
