Well I say good luck to the man. I would be doing the same damn thing as him if my career got messed up by some drug cheating scumbags.

Only just reading about Rochigianni and the WBC...shocking! And yet governing bodies are still corrupt.

Why wouldn’t Jones Jr take the fight?

After being jobbed in the Korean Olympics against Park Si-Hun. Roy vowed to never box abroad ever again. Thats why that fight and some others didnt happen. Equally, alot of European fighters at the time refused to fight in the USA over fear of being jobbed themselves.

Why couldn’t it happen in the states? Surely that would have been where the money was anyway?

Why should Rochigianni go to the states where if the fight goes to points then he gets robbed? He was making easily enough money out of Germany and retaining his title. You would only have traveled had the money been massive, and he was prepared to sell his belt.

It is harsh to say. But boxing is so corrupt that if you fight away from home, in an evenly matched fight, be prepared to get jobbed on the cards.

But surely it’d have gone to purse bids and the fight would happen wherever the most money is. Had it and Rocky had turned it down, then surely he wouldn’t have been awarded so much money. So did Jones jr just refuse?

No, the fight made more sense in Germany, boxing (particularly the Light Heavies) were going though a boon time there, in that period.

But surely not versus the money Jones JR was getting at that time? I may be wrong...

Jones was on very good money, but not absolute top notch. He would have made more if this fight was in Germany rather than the US.

In which case I can semi-understand not want to go there after the olympics fiasco. No excuse for WBC’s treatment of Rocky though. Surely if that was the case then there was a financial incentive for the WBC to stick with him though?

It was the WBC, they figured they could style it out. But to be fair to Rocchigiani and his team, they fought to the end. It still annoys me the WBC could just set up the organisation again after the bankruptcy, and that so many of us in boxing have just played along.

He would be the oldest man to win heavyweight world championship in history if they reward him with the title

Rocchigiani settled with WBC in the end and WBC avoided going bankrupt. WBC made multi year payment plan with him. They didnt just make new organization with same name out of thin air
