Used to like watching Po'uha's fights. Good puncher, but not the most dedicated fighter I've seen. Lots of problems with his weight and conditioning. I remember he had Golota in serious trouble, but ended up getting stopped in 5. Usually entertaining in the fights I've seen him in anyway ..
Yeah he had serious weight issues, coming in at almost 300 pounds at times. If I'm remembering correctly his first loss was to Craig Payne, who also was notorious for coming into fights out of shape. Payne had a amateur pedigree and a boxing pedigree though, Samson not so much, fun as he was.
I remember watching that fight live. One of my saddest moments as a Bert Cooper fan. I don't know if it was the drugs, or what, but Bert just looked awful.
I know. But, he just looked even worse than normal that night. The only upside was how much sweeter it made it when he destroyed undefeated Ritchie Melito later that year. (Bert's last hurrah)
I agree he may have been high. He was kind of tweeking in the preflight interview. I think Michigan was light on the drug testing as Tiny Tubes fought several times at the same venue in Auburn Hills, MI
Huge Bert Cooper fan too, ever since he destroyed Willie De Witt. Wish he´d stayed as a cruiser, would´ve been champion. Gutted when he died. Sam Po'uha, if memory serves me right got bitten by Golota just when he almost had him out. I felt sorry for Po'uha in that fight and you can´t blame him for feeding on what was left of Cooper. Nonetheless I was happy that in his next fight he was bombed out by Jesse Ferguson and Cooper destroyed Melite. Wish Bert had retired after that fight but it wasn´t to be.
