Love the ram rod jab from Tshabalala, we even get a rare jab knockdown! Little finesse or artistry in Courage's work but you can tell he was powerful. I remember commentary saying something to the effect that he could put up over 400 pounds in the bench press with zero training, just raw strength. There's also the oft mentioned but unconfirmed amateur record of 71-1... with 70 knockouts. He also broke Oleg Maskaev's ribs in their excellent fight with some of the hardest body shots I've ever seen someone take without going down. Also, what's your opinion on Wilson? A hard fighter to gauge IMO. I'm always surprised by the way he blew out Shannon Briggs when looking at Briggs career as a whole and some of the abuse he took from top fighters. https://archive.org/details/wilson-tshabalala
Courage had little defense or stamina. Wilson liked to go to war but had a shaky chin. He had a big heart though I clearly remember watching. Wilson take on Briggs on HBO boxing after dark. Briggs had a glossy record and was being hyped but had faced weak competition He went after Wilson like he expected to overwhelm him in one or two rounds. He rocked him a bit. But Wilson weathered the storm and exposed Brigg's lack of stamina and defense. Briggs learned to pace himself later
Notice that while counting the knockdown at the end of the 3rd, Referee Rudy Battle stopped counting at 7, waited for Wilson to get up, then turned around and told the time keeper to ring the bell BEFORE waiving the fighters together. Very strange. Great fight aside from that. I thought Wilson was a decent journeyman. Comparable I suppose to Derrick Jefferson, Vaughn Bean...somewhere around that level. I always thought Wilsons' KO of Briggs is what convinced Foreman that Briggs was a safe enough fight to take at that stage of his career.
