Not a fighter I've ever gotten much into but I do have a (I think) previously unavailable on the net fight from a time period that was exceptionally rife with great fights and great characters. I love the broadcasting style from this period in boxing history, they had really refined it throughout the 70's culminating in a really great presentation that you don't really see much of anymore. My opinion anyway. Enjoy! This content is protected
If anyone else watches this, the commentator says that Herrera was knocked unconscious in his last KO loss because he slipped on a rain soaked ring canvas and hit his head against the ring post. He took an immediate rematch against the guy and stopped him in the return. I've never heard that before and boxrec didn't even have a whisper about it so I added the information to it's proper page. Hell of a story, love to see tape of it...
This is actually a pretty fantastic 3 round fight. Herrera puts up a hell of a fight with a committed counter punching game and has a lot of success before really getting nailed.
Tony Ayala savage in the ring but couldn't control his emotions and demons outside the ring . However wasn't as skillful as a Duran and if he got help he wouldn't have been the same fighter in the ring.
I find the pre-fight interviews here, with doctors, Ayala, and even his father, to be a pretty damning indictment of Ayala himself and the events that would soon unfold.
