Both those guys are still big names, but pretty shot. Rahmen would ahv ethe added advantage that if he beats Toney, he would have a decent streak of wins going. That would be an excellent opportunity. However, the winner is likely to get a shot at somebody's title, so I cannot see it happening.
That article is great... I would love for Friday to get a big shot at something. We were offered Olandier Solis for very little cash a while back. And then the fight went away. Friday and Samuel have said they would never meet , they are close friends and it has been fought in the gym many times. I have watched Friday v Peter about 5 times with head gear and Friday often gets the upper hand , and has never ever been rattled once. The fight i do like is Rahman, he is stationary and easy to figure out and is the wrong side of 30.. John Reese and I are just waiting for the best offer to come along. Chagaev would be a great opportunity for us.. Thankyou for everyones support by the way.. You are a great set of fight followers... God bless..
Friday reminds me a little of Glen Johnson. He is tough, has a good chin, good power, always comes to fight, and ducks no body!!!! I would love to see this guy get a win streak going so he could contend for a title. I think that Jason Estrada is the perfect fight for Friday. He is a smaller heavyweight who can box a little but can't crack an egg. Friday would walk through his shots and ko him in a few rounds.
Too bad Solis' camp lowballed you, that would've been an interesting fight. Rahman now would be a pretty winnable fight for Friday. He gets alot of credit in my book for coming back from that losing streak to put together the best stretch of his career when alot of guys probably would've hung 'em up. Hopefully he can get a solid payday out of it.:thumbsup
Actually I dont think Friday cna beat Rahman..he might make it interesting but I dont think he can win...again I like Travis Walker or Jason Estrada...make it happen BigCat:hi:
I saw his two previous fights before those two fights...I still think Rahman can pull it off against Friday..sorry I dont see it(unless Rahman looks like utter ass against Toney and I mean utter ass )
Our main battle with Friday was getting him to be there mentally as well as physically. When we get the mix right , he is like an atom bomb , I just wish he would let the hands go a bit more when the fight is up for grabs.. Those few close rounds that are close call rounds all add up on the scorecards.. Its all a matter of grabbing the bull by the horns and striking whilst the irons hot.
Good post, motor! Well spoken! The won fights against Butler and Cameron should help Friday to get some bigger fights and decent paychecks. And you are absolutely right in saying that Friday there are surely some ranked heavies that he can beat when he is at the top of his game. Makes me sick to see undeserved guys like Ray Austin a shot at a world title and a big payday just because he has the right promoter with the right connections.
I"m a big fan of Friday, and wish him the best. Saw his fight against Cameron in NZ. Bigcat, what's his mental problem with getting lazy and not letting his hands go? Lazy? Tired?
I think Soloman came up with some good picks for Friday. Match him up right and light a fire under his ass and he can definitely get himself some spotlight again.
Friday has been a longtime sparring partner for a lot of high profile heavyweights and it has made him a bit too respectful of what opponents are going to do at times.. He has worked at length with Tyson, Lewis, Wladimir, Ettiene, Peter, Ibragimov, Chagaev, Lyachovich, and a lot more.... He sometimes tends to wait a second before being first off the mark.. Its like he is too used to being aware of oncoming danger , when he doesn't realise , Its him who is the dangerous one.. If i keep jokeying him during fights, to "BE FIRST" .. "GET THAT JAB OFF" etc... he will often just go through the motions.. The one thing he isn't is lazy, he trains very dillegently and asks what he does wrong or right all the time.. Just needs telling too often.. Its like reprogramming a fighter to concentrate on himself rather than the champ.. or whoever he is sparring with.. He is the number 1 concern now... Just needs to remember he is in the driving seat once more...:good
This seems to be the crux. When he presses forward he almost always has success. But it is like Friday resorts to sparring partner mentality too often; languishing and waiting to counter or not even throwing back at times. It looks like you guys are working with him, as he's been more aggressive in spots in recent fights. I'd love to see him beat a guy like Kevin Johnson or maybe even Estrada, although Estrada is a good boxer, then get a top 15 fight. Golota or Rahman would both be good matchups.
Good analysis Bigcat. How do you counter his attitude? Telling him doesn't work. My main man is David Tua. Have they ever sparred? When Friday was in NZ, he said he wished he could fight Tua rather than Cameron, as he would have made more money? Were they ever close to fighting each other? Best of luck. There's still alot of talk about Friday Down Under in NZ.
Damn! I would love to see Friday take on Estrada! Estrada was american boxing's version of Pearl Harbour at the amateurs.Estrada's shameful interview made the entire american squad look like bloody beginners who had no clue of boxing. So many foreign tv channels and commentators made fun of the USA and its national olympians due to Estrada's behaviour. It is behind me how anyone in the USA can pay a good buck in order to watch Estrada fight at the pros! I for my part will certainly root for Friday!
