Anyone who thinks Ibragimov is a worthy opponent and dismisses Ahunanya, then they need to see their fight. Ibragimov was lucky that fight was stopped on cuts because he was on the verge of getting his ass knocked out.
Friday actually has a speciality of beating unbeaten prospects, When Don King signed him he faced Derrell Dixon who was unbeaten and we beat him , then we faced the unbeaten prospect Nate Jones and gave him his first loss, Then we faced Josue Blocus who had an amazing record with almost all of his wins by Ko, again we handed him his first loss in AC.. Then we were within an ace of beating Ibragimov in Georgia , Ibragimov was on the floor 4 times in all , but they only scored 1 a legit knockdown.. Then just when he was ready to go Ibrag launched his head forwards in the corner and Fridays eye split, the referee never allowed us a chance to fix it and halted it to give the rising russian the Tech dec and the belts.. Then we took Povetkin the full distance in Germany (a disgraceful set of affairs) and last october we faced Shane Cameron another unbeaten rising star who Friday Ko'd in the final round, Alonzo was maybee the sweetest win of all , Butler was the only picture on the poster , and we got an e-mail from Joe Tessetore saying that because Fridays last performance on ESPN was atrocious against Guinn we were refused the fight .. so we appealed and they re- reviewed us before reluctantly handing us the chance to fight Butler warning us that Butler was no joke (The joke was on them).. Beating Butler was great , we made him quit because we knew he had taken us very lightly, 263 was no weight to come in at when you are stepping up to take a higher level opponent. That is why Art (the promoter) told me he was alright having us get the decision, He said i didn't want my own fighter fight like a donkey and be part of him getting a gift because he was the promoters homeboy. How sweet was that.. Thanks for all of you who offer congrats , you are a fine set of fellers. Indeed Friday has been cheif sparring partner for Mike Tyson whom Friday knocked over in Arizona prior to the cliff Ettienne fight, Friday was cheif sparring partner for Lennox before Lewis boxed Tyson, and sparred with Wladimir for both the Shufford and McCline fights. Friday has also sparred with Cliff Ettienne, Oliver McCall, Mo Harris, Sergei, Sammy Peter, Duncan Dokiwari, Cisse Salif, Ruslin Chagaev whom i personally watched get knocked almost out in the gym in 2003 when friday hit him with 2 uppetcuts in Toccos Gym .. Chagaev had to take a five minute rest to revive properly.. Friday had previously sparred with Ibragimov and his cousin Timur, and Tye Fields... I lost count actually on everyone he has sparred with but they are the largest names.. Chagaev is the man we would like to box, He and Friday are great buddies and if they actually spoke i am sure Ruslin would offer Friday a chance if he got himself in the title running... Friday is his actual name .. he was indeed born on a friday (But not the 13th) It was Dons idea to call him the 13th, Friday was not really happy at the time, His full name is Friday Chinedu Ahunanya.. He came to America in 1997 with Ikemafula Ibeabuchi (Now in jail for ****) whom he refers to as a (Son of the soil) nickname because they are from the same area of Nigeria. I love our new team , we have Elijah Thomas (OLiver McCalls first manager) John (new manager) Leroy Cauldwell (heavyweight contender from the 70's and fought everyone from Pinklon Thomas and got a draw with Trevor Berbick.. (Merqui Sosa) along with me as cornermen / trainers.. Merqui is more hands on than me because he is there 100% and i can only do so much , our cutsman is Vince Acosta.. Fridays last few weeks training has been awesome he has been relaxed and less stressed out and we ask him how he feels daily and have a small meeting after every workout to see how everyone feels things are going... I hope the future brings us bright things and i thank everyone on here for being so supportive.. i will definitely keep you posted, i think a large profile fight is only a whisker away.. God bless..
Title shot would be incredible... a good payday is what we will get at least.. Thanks for kind words......
\ You are simply wrong. Friday scored a flash knockdown early in the fight but that was it. He had his moments but there is no doubt that Ibragimov was clearly winning the fight. He was not hurt at all at the time of the stoppage and the headbutt was accidental.
Hearing that about the email from Joe Tessitore makes me all the more happy that Friday won! It was obvious watching the fight on ESPN that they wanted Butler to win. They weren't really biased against Friday but they weren't really happy with his success either, and Teddy made much more of Friday's shortcoming of not stopping Butler than anything else...Though Teddy did have a fair decision on the scorecards!
I felt there was a definite turning of the tides in that fight. Ibragimov came out busy early but even the rounds he won were very, very close. He seemed to come unglued when Friday started to get Ibragimov's timing down, countered and made the fight more physical. At the time of the stoppage things were not going well for Ibragimov at all. Ibragimov was looking weary and missing. He didn't look good at all in those last couple of rounds. He was all over the place and fell several times in this fight. His conditioning, which has always been a question mark, seemed to be becoming a factor as this fight wore on. I think Ibragimov was fortunate that this fight was stopped on cuts.
Thankyou kind sir... That was the feeling that we were having.. its hard to tell in the corner sometimes, it was a very manic night...
