Dean Powell always makes me smile...he looks like the third member of "Right Said Fred". Whats with the ****ing perma-tan?
I think that'll do a lot for Clev's confidence. Doesn't need to chase a ko to prove anything as he has seemed to do recently. Solid performance Nath :good
Clev looked good, the oponent was a bit over matched though, he looked like a middleweight. Still a KO woudve done his confidence some good. Bewell on the undercard looked strong aswel, I remember seeing him in an ABA final, it was obvious to see then that he could dig. Cleverly - Bewell in a few fights time maybe?
he looked good but he was figthing a super middleweight wh only got announced last week...but well done.still think he would wilter against a decent counterpuncher.
Cleverly was only a super middle himself up until recently. I still think he'd be better served at that weight, where he's tall and has the physical advantages, and also he isn't a hard puncher despite knocking the Afrobum out cold. Maybe he's outgrown it, but he's got a wiry frame. I am moderately impressed with him recently I must say. I thought he was poor up until his last 2 performances where he looked fragile. But he's tightened up. He's got a lot of variety to his work. He's clearly better using his reach, where he can use his fluid combinations and variety. I know Jim Watt criticises him for getting involved, but I didn't agree, I think he showed good potential with his inside work. He seems a well rounded fighter.
I think leaving the Calzaghe stable is bound to help him use his natural gifts, rather than turning into a young Joe. I feel he could still do super middle as well - they need to man up and move up to domestic level though to see how good he really is. Fighting these kind of puddings for a mickey mouse title is just going to put unneccessary miles on the clock.
Remember Clev is still studying for a Maths degree! So he will probably take it slow and not fight too great an opposition for now. If he takes too many punches he might forget how to count!
I would put him in with Francis, I really would. Francis won the lottery against Oakey, Cleverly did a far more impressive job. Sure Francis has a chance to knock him out if he lands something, and Clev has been hurt in the past...but he's got one arm. I'd be confident in Cleverly's speed, variety, work-rate getting the better of him easily.
Didn't see Francis vs Oakey so can't say. I understand he is a bit of an enigma, ala Danny Williams, so you probably don't know what version is going to turn up.
i was quite impressed by the kid, only saw snippets of the oakey fight but against an admitedly limited opponent he looked good last night, the finishing shot was class.i think as a light heavy however he does need a bit of pop to challenge the big boys.
