Right lads. Good night last night again. Went on my own but must thank Bellew for a good ticket. Was sat with 3 old men which was good as I hate sitting with nobheads and there was plenty of them there last night. Big fight again half way through the Degale fight (If you watch the start of rd 3 you'll see Degale turn away from his opponent and start watching it ) Liam and Steven Smith looked ok again. Opponents were decent but both showed they were at least a step up in class than them both Missed the Jamie Cox fight so can't really say how he did Michael Jennings looked good. We heard the rumours that he'd had a really good camp and didn't want to waste it, well it looked true enough. He looked very fit and I actually forgot how good a little boxer he is (funny what a loss does for you) He probably could have stopped the fight but his oppo was really tough and he seemed to be dragging it out for the rounds Tobias Webb - Came into the ring thinking he was superman or something. Looked ok but can't really see him going too far judging by that performance Frankie Gavin - Class. Looked every bit as good as his potential suggests he is. I was looking forward to this one as Saville is normally a right rugged little ****er. He was outclassed in every department. Gavin is a class apart from most British fighters at this level already. His power is not a problem because he is so good picking and landing his punches. Tony Bellew - Ruthless. I expected a hard fight for him last night with that lad having a very decent resume, but gotta say Bellew looks like a man on a mission these days. Right from the off, no touching gloves and no restbite for his opponent, after the knockdown, no ****ing about straight across the ring and finished off within seconds. Saw it on Sky this morning and watching the celebrations you know full well this is a lad full of confidence and a lad looking to make his mark as soon as possible. Smith/Quigley - Decent scrap. I wanted quigley to win as I'm not sold at all on either of the Smiths however big credit to both fighters there last night. Both were ****ed and both continued to look for it. I had it 5/5 going into the 11th. Smith took both of them for me so I had him winning by 2. Thought St Lewis' card was a bit out at 116-112 to Smith but it was a hard one to score and he at least got the winner . Nice arena the Echo. Still prefer the MEN but thats more to do with the fact the Echo is tiny around the Walkways. Was suprised to hear 5 scousers saying they thought it was **** on the way in. One said the MEN's well better which his mates all agreed with, although they did say it was better than having to travel away for the fights. Good night all in all, get the feeeling it'll be my last this year so it was a nice way to end it. That was the 5th card i've been to this year though and every single on has been interrupted my nob-heads fighting in the stands. Beer - Violent Sports - Chavs - DO NOT MIX :deal
Nice write-up Dan. Cheers. Yeah, the fight in between the degale fight seemed to be quite a distraction - Warren and most people at ringside were momentarily on their feet checking it out. Was there a bunch of lads fighting?
No just 1 lad confornted one other lad & no real punches were thrown The highlight was when the police tried to arrest 1 lad and he escaped and ran away, that was about the most entertaining part
were did yer sit mate? i went to the echo arena last year to watch the world amateur boxing championships and we seemed miles away from the ring. it was really layed out ****. even the ringside seemed well away from the ring probably different for the pro's
Great write up Dan! I really enjoyed the event too. Its exciting at the moment with all the young talent we have coming through with Gavin, Saunders, Degale, Bellew, Groves, Cleverly etc etc I agree too about pissed up people at the boxing. It happens at every event. I dont get it as when you go to the boxing and get pissed your bound to miss things in the fight when watching at as it must be hard to concerntrate on it. It seems to be the blokes that go to support 1 fighter and spend the rest of the time in the bar that are the problem!
3 blokes had it with 1 and i there was a few punches thrown. it was funny was matey it the red shirt ran from the old bill. looked a right pleb
Cheers lads. I was sat in block 12 on Row EE, seat was ok really. Would have been difficult to see towards the top of the tiers but luckily I wasn't sat there BodySnatcher - Spot on pal. On Friday when I got there, in the circular foyer there was fans of either fighter singing songs trying to goad the other fans, you know the ones..... "There's only oneeeeeeee Tony Quigley" and "There's only oneeeeeeee Paulie Smith" :-( Well just before the DeGale fight I remembered i'd needed change for the car park so I went into the foyer bit to get a bag of crisps (The only bags available are like the size of a multibag and cost like 3 and a half quid) and all the same fans were there doing the same thing. And there was about 3 fights out side there too :-(
We left as soon as the verdict was read out as i had a feeling it might "kick off" a bit and couldnt be bothered getting caught in the middle of it, so im not suprised there were fights outside Dan!
