Rendall Munroe tonight defends his European Super-bantamweight title against decent French pro Salem Boutia in Nottingham. Rendall won his belt with a good display against feared big hitting Kiko Martinez last time out but will probably be going for a better performance this time out. The fight looks pretty interesting, neither is a big hitter and both are durable. Rendall's only loss came by decision at featherweight and from the 12 losses on Salems record only two have been by stoppage. Rendall is 14-1 with six KO's, Salem is 19-12 with six KO's. I would pick Rendall to win by a comfortable UD. Salam has fought some good European opponents, usually losing and is rarely stopped. Salam's losses include the names Kiko Martinez UD, Alberto Servidei UD, Mayar Monshipour TKO9, Salem Medjkoune UD, Nicky Cook UD and a last round stoppage to Micheal Alldis. Rendall should be able to put his skills on display and set up a future fight with Esham Pickering, Bernard Dunne or another good defence. Also on the bill. Ian Napa faces Colin Moffet in a defence of Napa's British Bantamweight title. Napa should win this and once again by UD. Moffet won the Irish Bantamweight belt last time out so has a reason to be hopeful of causing an upset. Scott Haywood vs Frederic Gosset looks a decent test for Haywood but he should come through with a win. Adie Whitmore, Olly Newman, Kevin Hammond, Steve Jevons and Barrington Brown are listed to fight as well as exciting Leicester fighter Kevin Concepcion who will be looking to enter domestic title frame soon, he's a very good fighter worth keeping an eye on. One of my favorite local fighters Danny Reynolds is scheduled to fight. Very entertaing scrapper and Sam Webb who seems to KO or be KOed. Anyone going? I am watching this one on Sky. I had planned to make the trip but the women has to work and will not get back in time for me to get there. Gutted. :-(
I think Rendall really surprised everyone with his beating of Kiko Martinez, and feel that this one is a bit of an easy defence for him, perhaps a form of tune up fight before bigger challenges that may lie ahead. Title challenge perhaps - Martinez was being bandied about?
Munroe should give up his job and concentrate full time on boxing. I think he could win a world title. A fight with Dunne would be big money.
Yeah good post.Enjoyed Munroe against Martinez.Seems like a really nice fella and i wish him well tonight and for the future.
7 weeks since his win over Kiko Martinez. Rendall is 27 so he is on track for those who like fighters to be mixing it with high class opponents and the fact he wants to keep his momentum going with his mandatory opponent must be a good thing. Salem is no bum and has mix in good European class, the guys I mentioned earlier have just about all gone onto win world honours or been a challenger like Nicky Cook. The fact he is not often stopped could make the fight pretty even, if Munroe does stop him then I'll be singing his praises for a long time. Munroe plans to fight Esham Pickering next. Both have to win thier next fight, I think Esham has a good bout with Matthew Marsh lined up which looks very tricky at the relative stages of the two guys careers. Hopefully after that Munroe will fight Dunne in a fight I can not yet pick a winner, Dunne looked decent last time out. If Rendall comes through those in the form he has been showing then anything could happen including a world title challenge, Steve Molitor would probably be the guy he would go for. Rendall needs to add a few more stoppages for me though to show he can mix it at that level. I think the fight is on at 9.30 but I have not checked.
Pickering was awful in the first Huges fight but once again looked good next time they fought. Esham is still decent but at the moment I think Rendall beats him. The Dunne fight could be great. Molitor beats them both.
Big fan of Munroe. I expect he'll thoroughly outbox this chump, but I'd really like to see him sit down on his punches and try to get him out of there on accumulation. That would be impressive considering his durability
Yep. :good I hope Rendall goes for the KO. If he does it will come after about 7 rounds when the other guy is getting tired and behind on the cards. Rendall never tried to stop Kiko so tonight is his chance to show off against a guy suited to him.
I saw Molitor a few times before the Hunter fight over the net but did not take too mucj note. The Hunter fight was amazing and he showed every ounce of his potential, I never saw that result coming. Since then they say he has improved greatly and now has added that much needed power although he has a very good boxing brain so does whatever is required to get the win. I think he is really up there in the elite and I hope he gets a couple of big fights, no one has looked like beating him. As for Dunne and Munroe I am not sure they can beat him, Dunne has the better shot depending on if he gets down to business in the gym. I do not know how good Rendall is going to be but at the moment I would pick Molitor to stop him.
Mostly watching this cause Napa's on the card. Munroe's good but why move down to Super Bantam and he pitty pattys alot for a guy whos huge at the weight.
Looking forward to this card. I had no idea Ian Napa was on the undercard, he's always an entertaining fighter to watch, will Napa win the Lonsdale belt outright in this since it's his third defense? I got Munroe by wide UD, his opponent went the distance with Martinez which makes me think hes pretty durable, and the fact that he lost wide on the cards makes me think he isn't very good.
Yeah, Napa's fighting a guy whos a journeymen really and shouldn't be fighting for the British title. A stoppage for Napa should happen. The Dapa should go for the Euro after this, he's gotten better recently.
