i think i posted this on the wrong post earlier, but was this the type of fight he should have taken coming off a loss?? has he gone as far as Mercuri can take him, does he need a different trainer?? i dont think i saw him slip any punches, where is his head movement?? i really want to see Lenny do well, it would be great to see him go to the next level, i think he has it in him,
what do you mean, he got a world title shot fighting from Australia. He just needs to improve his defence, move head movement and lateral movement some times and not standing in the poket to long after he attacks. it can be done.
His not getting the sparring he needs here in AUS nor the proper training or matchmaking, if he moves to USA and gets himself a trainer from the states that does it the right way in terms of matchmaking and training and he fights on their scene he will go places fast imo. If you look at his record, it was an accident waiting to happen. Giving him a false sence of confidence without the correct tools and disipline.
I disagree. he can get the sparring here, he is in sydney there is world class fighters there. the grange gym, the hit squad gym. ther is lots of fighter he can spar. he just need to improve things in his game.
so who here can he spar that is as good as pacman? the guys he is sparring here arent on the same level as a pacman, look how well Khan has gone since moving to USA and fighting under Roach, getting frequent sparring with one of the best fighters around etc. imo he is cutting himself short here in AUS, they arent even importing sparring partners for him, something KT used to do.
Its an interesting 1 for Lenny. About half of the world top Lightweights/Light Welters are based in California alone. So i can see where TC is coming from. Imagine Zappa getting sparring from the likes of La Colonia In Oxnard with Robert Garcia, or Sarmiento Brothers in Oxnard, or the Maywood Boxing Gym. All those camps got mulitple fighters which are top 15 Lightweights/Light Welters.
12 months of sparring and fighting fringe fighters would do him wonders. he is not learning properly here. sparring more often with better fighters would FORCE him to learn imo. i am sure he CAN win a title and beat some top fighters. i hope he fulfills that in future.
I think everyone's making some solid points about Lenny and getting better sparring, but for ****s sake, can someone please teach him proper footwork and positioning! Walking in, and standing flat footed, at times nearly face on to your opponent only spells a world of hurt and right through the whole fight, Diaz just plucked him off with a multitude of different style punches. **** me, the kids 23yrs of age and they positioned him for a world title shot when not ready and against the worst style he could of ever faced in Vasquez, come straight off the defeat and throw him back in an eliminator against a credentialed fighter who can move and box and is technically sound and the result is getting iced and exposed in a major way. Where does this leave him? Unless major changes are made, and I mean major, he's done and dusted. If he makes some big calls and really wants to make change, well he may be able to come again but I have my serious doubts. Terrible planning by his team to take him out of the frypan that was the world title shot and then throw the kid back into the fire in his very next fight. At 23yrs of age, he could of had a good 6 re-building fights, no rush and get himself back in the frame, mentally, as well as with his performances. I really feel sorry for Lenny as he's such a nice, likable young man. Jesus wept, I'm glad they've never taken the option to face someone like Ganoy in the past, Lenny would have been killed.
I agree Buster, hence my opening comments about being a lot of positive points people have noted, your comments included. Good sparring and good quality guidance to work on a fighters strengths, and in this case, weaknesses is imperative.
and no more favours from Ray Wheatly, he may think his doing them favours but he is not doing them any favours by taking shortcuts, he sanction this fight. If its an elminator why wasnt 1 & 2 fighting for the shot? instead we got 7 and something else? what was the other guy? you got to let a kid walk on his own otherwise ur going to be holding the ****s hand for the rest of his life. Tommy got exposed big time. Majority of Lennys fights have been missmatched bouts against guys he shouldnt have been fighting, they have stepped him up on the back drop of a HEAVY padding on his record, its nothing more than wishful thinking. If Lenny wants to look after Lenny then he gets rid of Tommy and heads to the states, he remains here he wont win a thing, unless Ray gives him a gift Vacant title fight like we seen with Dib, even then he wont hold onto it for long, WTF is the use of these ****s wining titles when they KNOW dam well its impossible for them to hold onto them. Mandatorys will fck them in the ass all night long, i cant wait for Dibs Mandatory, i bet my left nutsack he vacates it. boxing in this country is a farce, has been for sometime now and guys like Zappa pay the price. I dont blame him, i blame the people who manage and train him, they are fckin morons.
