Canelo Kovalev was a fix. Kovalev never throws pawing pitty pat jabs like that all fight…he throws with mean intentions (extending arms, snappy punches) at guys who are basically cruiserweights (Yarde, Eleider) but he decides to pitty pat a guy who jumped not just one weight class but two, up from 160. A guy who wasn’t even a KO artist at 154 or 160 (apart from KOing much smaller Khan).

The argument against this is that Kovalev was scared of the counterpunches…right…but not against bigger punchers and heavier guys like Ward, Eleider and Yarde…righttttt. He showed minimal hesitation to Canelo’s punches all fight, which stands in direct contrast to his reaction from punches against the heavier guys.

There's also the argument he was drained and coming off a short camp...since when does being drained stop you from even trying to throw a punch with your arms extended...and with intention....all fight

    Canelos fights should be investigated

Valid argument, however it will never be proved. It's crazy to even think that some guy would be willing to purposely fight to get knocked out, but I've never had that much money in my face either. Kovalev is a much more skilled fighter than he showed that night, he arguably beat Andre Ward. Andre Ward would have outpointed Canelo with ease.

Kovalev had a brutal fight with Yarde and then had less than 2 months to recover and train. On top of that, he had a rehydration clause.

Kovalev was weakened as much as possible for that fight. Canelo had all the judges on his side. They stacked the deck as much as possible and all Canelo has to do was not get knocked out and he was guaranteed a win.

I don't think so, Kovalev was just drained to a zombie, that's why he didn't fight hard. Had no endurance due to short training camp / not enough rest after his fight against Yarde, crippling rehydration clause, he couldn't even make weight first. It was also his 4th training camp that year which is grueling. Kovalev wasn't able to do anything but jab that night.

After a fight like with yarde, you are supposed to take a break for at least 5 months before you get into to ring again, add to this that he had a rehydration clause and you had a kovalev who would absolutely gas after throwing a couple of snappy punches, because of that he opted for the safe steady work rate.

In an interview, Kovalev admitted that he was physically exhausted due to preparing for an August 24th fight with Anthony Yarde and immediately going back into camp to fight Alvarez just over two months later.

Kovalev’s comments, including one that he only took the fight because of the payday which is reported to be $12 million, have many believing the fight was fixed and that Kovalev had no incentive to give forth any effort against Alvarez.

Canelo was even asked on Mexican TV why he resorted to drain Kovalev:

Kovalev was winning that fight. Of course they were robbing him on canelo cards but I still has some money on him due to the odds.
I was sceptical at first cause of the ko but in slowmo it looked like a solid punch.
It was still deck stacking though by rushing him into the fight after Yarde.

Believe whatever you want, but you’re foolish to believe that was anything but a spar

As to your last comment, that’s not the point - the point is, it was a spar, which is scamming the public of money by them portraying it as if it was a real fight.

    Yeaa that’s just damage control.

He didn’t look exhausted he just didn’t try. Since when does being weight drained make you unable to throw one heavy punch with arm extended throughout 11 rounds? There’s plenty of drained boxers who are able to at least extend their arms.

Arguably beat Ward? That was one of the worst robberies I have seen in a long long time. At least Canelo paid him handsomely to shaft him. Wards 0 was a prize possession, he beat him fair and square and got shafted massively

It was definitely corrupt, but I don't think fixed. Kovalev said there was no way he could win, suggesting whatever he had to do was very crippling. Canelo also clearly roided massively for this 175 fight, probably also explaining the finish.

But there's another factor and that is McGirt, who people celebrate but who actually took away Kovalev's best asset, his big power and encouraged him to be a jabbing point fighter at middle-age because he saw some amateur tapes. It's insanely stupid, but yes, that's what this trainer did. And Kovalev was dumb enough to take this guy on and believe him to prove to everyone and Duva that he wasn't raciss.
