The home of techno. Which people only really 'get' in Europe.

I remember watching the late very great Frankie Knuckles get a god like reception at a club in Brixton. Don't know how many US cities outside of Detroit and Chicago would've had that love for him.

Another thing I get flack for outside the midwest is being a fan of house and techno music. If you a real 90s Detroiter you have been to a rave. No matter your look, you'll end up at one.

Well Frankie was a Chicago House head but it's funny how the US seems to pretty much ignore all of the great electronic music it's produced and love all of the cheesy **** that's been packaged up from Europe.

I think House probably got overlooked for having gay origins and techno for being black. You can see why a group called Underground Resistance which sounded radically different to anything else would scare a lot of conservative types.

Well I work as a music writer so have been fortunate enough to interview a fair few Detroit legends.

    Jeff Mills - very introverted.

    Juan Atkins - Super weird.

Robert Hood - cool guy who has moved with the times.

I could name a load more as I've hung out with a lot of Detroit guys when I was living in Berlin and it's crazy to think how big they were there compared to at home.

Im curious how you felt about the Pianeta fight? Personally, I never got all the criticism he got for Pianeta. Sure he didn't get the ko, and a couple rounds were fairly close. But it was basically a shutout and he was clearly toying with Pianeta and getting rounds in. He laid on the ropes Ali style and intentionally let him take swings at him, just so he could dodge them. It was awesome to watch, from my point of view. But when Ali did that he got mad credit, when Fury did, he got criticism for not getting a kayo. I felt like I watched a different fight from everyone else, as to me, it showed a Fury that, if not 100% back, was close enough to obviously still have the core attributes of amazing size and movement combination that make him elite.

People are complex, but that's no good. We need heros and villians. So **** it, Fury is the devil incarnate.

Fury tested positive, so there was talks of a fight verdict being overturned, but it was the Hammer fight, which was closer to when the test happened. They used the contaminate meat excuse, which I don't buy, but other fighters like Ortiz and Canelo have used to get away with things. Fury's statements on it in that past have been that everyone is on stuff anyway, and they should just let people use it. The whole positive test was dragged out to an unreasonable degree, and Fury, who has a history of mental health issues, and coming off the high of beating Wlad cracked. he fell into a deep depression, he self medicated with drugs and attempted suicide. Fury probably used stuff, but UKAD's treatment of him was atrocious, especially as he was clearly going through major issues.

People talk about him not rematching Wlad, that was going to be his big pay day, if he just couldn't be bothered, he could have gotten through that and had enough to retire on. But mental illness is illness, you can't just controll it like that. That he threw that all away like that, and trashed his body, is pretty good evidence that he was suffering from legit mental health issues.

Can someone tell me when he tested positive and if his B sample was tested for the Wlad fight?

It was just after the fight with Christian Hammer IIRC, a good bit before the Wlad fight.

Good post. And everyone is hypocritical on the subject of peds, probably even me, although I'm usually not too judgmental on it. But EVERYONE has a fighter they love who there is credible reason to believe used or uses peds.

You can make a pretty good case that nearly every elite athlete is on PEDs. I'd say there's atleast a good chance most are.

I could be wrong but think it was something to do with the length of time they took to charge them/let know that they failed. This allowed them to contest it not the test result, they blamed elevated levels on boar, but the length of time it took to charge them.
Strange I know, then the length of the case and the fact that it drew attention to the short comings of UKADS testing and the financial burden of the case, UKAD basically settled and fury took a backdated ban, probably part of the deal was that the result was never deemed a fail.
