.........lend Mike Tyson your ear. Today marks the 19th anniversary of the (in)famous Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield WBA Heavyweight Title match. This was the 2nd of two fights between these two perennial Hall of Fame boxers, with Holyfield securing an 11th Round TKO Seven months prior. The fight, billed as "The Sound and the Fury" was fought at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Original Referee Mitch Halpern, the man who refereed Tyson-Holyfield's first fight, was scheduled to referee the re-match. But Tyson's manager and co-manager had an emergency meeting with the NSAC, to remove Halpern, claiming Tyson would suffer psychologically damage and Halpern would not give Tyson a fair fight. The NSAC announced that they had ruled against Tyson, keeping Halpern as the referee. NSAC Executive Director Marc Ratner broke the news later that night that Mitch Halpern had stepped down as referee. Mills Lane was awarded the opportunity to be the referee. In a Nostradamus type statement, Tyson's former trainer Teddy Atlas was on record, the day before the fight, stating that if Tyson did not knock out Holyfield early, that he [Tyson] would employ tactics to disqualify himself; including low-blows, elbowing, even biting. Holyfield was head butting Tyson like some kind of a country ass mountain goat. The ref would not penalize Evander despite Mike's pleas for a fair fight, so he went Brownsville on him. Mike Tyson is the cleanest and fair fighter that has ever laced them up. He is always getting picked on. Holyfield is a bible thumping bully.
