Smallish Heavyweight Marty Monroe looked to be climbing up the rankings towards top 10 contendership, his Manager (His wife) matched him with the young Giant Greg Page (at that time a hot prospect) and Marty lost on a cut eye stoppage after a brave effort, Marty never fought again, he looked like he bcould of done something at Cruiserweight.

Yeah, brutal match for Marty. He did however come back 2 years later and have two wins before retiring.

I've never seen Marty Monroe fight, nor ever even heard of him until I saw his name while scrolling through boxrec. Apparently, he was undfeated when he lost a fight to Scott Ledoux. Soon after, Ledoux was given a shot at Holmes, apparently for beating Monroe.

Vonzell Johnson and Jerry Martin were pretty good fighters, as well as Alex Ramos and James"Hardrock"Green.

Julio Cesar Green looked like he'd beat the world early in his career. Alex Ramos got mixed up in some trouble; my friend did time with him in LA county jail while Ramos was there accused of some involvement in a murder. I don't think he was ever charged and last I heard he was involved with a foundation to help retired fighters, but that was years ago. Santos Cardona was a tough guy. Harold Brazier fought a couple wars with Kevin Pompey that really stood out.
I think that is the biggest thing missing from boxing today, those tough club fighters that came to fight and really made a up and coming guy earn his place.

i watched brazier vs micky ward for the first time in years the other day and had forgotten how good brazier had looked in beating ward . from an english point of view mark kaylor is a stand-out fringe contender from the 80's always ready for a fight and exciting to watch as he could punch but was also a bit vulnerable

    Masterful wasn't it?

Brazier is underrated all round. He gave the likes of Meldrick Taylor and Roger Mayweather all they could handle.

Hector Lopez was fun to watch. Joe Hipp was one of my favorite heavyweight brawlers, a never say die attitude but fragile skin. Someone mentioned Thomas Tate, who gave Julian Jackson all he could handle. Add the enigmatic Jose Luis Lopez. Lamar Parks was headed to bigger things in a crowded division before the HIV took him out...

    All good fighters.

Parks was supposed to fight G-man - pity it didn't happen - would have been great fight.
